Families who came to the US very early and traveled West also have this problem though not nearly as severely. So do some adopted children and their offspring. So DNA tests are a good way to find lost relatives if any families have still not reunited.
The initial separations were despicable, but DNA tests and connecting through the internet will reunite families to the extent possible.
