There is speculation...Chuck Todd's afternoon show. John Meachum guest.
Bloomberg has made some big donation, and when asked if he runs for President (which he hasn't said he'd do but hasn't ruled it out, apparently), which party he'd run as? He said the Democratic Party.
I like him, to the extent I know him and his policies.
Independents and a lot of people from center left & center right would consider him, I'd guess. Not sure what other groups would. Is he pro-union? Pro-gay rights? Pro-fair pay for women? Does he want to keep Social Security and Medicare? I think he describes himself as socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

I don't think he will. But it looks like he's prepared to spend money to back some Democrats in certain places. Which is GREAT news.

(37,648 posts)You mean the rising star Kennedy? I don't think he's on the slate for this Presidential election. He's too young & inexperienced.
But hey, if he'd run, I'd be game. If he's the sort of person who would seek advice.
I'd like to see some fresh blood in key races in the party. And it looks like we're getting it.

(28,151 posts)He needs to cut the big pharma donations he gets and deal with the fact that pot needs to be legal. Until he evolves on those issues, no.

Hell, no, to Bloomberg.

(28,151 posts)I would guess he'd rather use his power while maintaining his comfortable life. He doesn't strike me as one who wants to jump into the WH fishbowl.

(37,648 posts)I think he's just has clearly said no, and then is making sizeable donations to Dems. So I think people are speculating.
He has more power behind the scenes, I'd guess.

(1,028 posts)I appreciate his generosity in helping financially to elect Democrats, but no, he is not Democratic Presidential material.

(37,648 posts)for ageism. But I agree (I'm over 60).
It's good to get fresh blood into any organization. Esp now that we've seen this newest generation, how competent they are. It's time to pass the torch. And let's face it. It takes a certain amount of energy to run this nation.

(54,256 posts)At almost 77 I have a hard enough time just keeping up with day to day life.
As my granny used to say "My get up and go has got up and left."
Yeah, I know there are some octogenarians who are still running marathons and climbing Mt. Denali. Good for them.
But they are (by far) the exception.
Fuck it.
I'm OLD and I make no bones about it.

(2,896 posts)him much personally. He's another billionaire opportunist who was basically able to buy his way into being mayor of NY (after becoming a Republican, since he couldn't get selected as the Democratic nominee)... and he was Rudy 9-11's chosen successor. He also pressured the City Council to change the rules so he could get a third term.
