This was planned to simply create more chaos. They will do anything to distract us and the media from the Russian probe and all the other horrible things this administration is doing.

the jacket thing? it's absolutely indefensible, completely deplorable, unimaginably uncivil, and overtly racist. it's also (as i think you imply) a well-planned chunk of red meat to the base.

so the news media has to cover this all somehow, right? we start off with FLOTUS visiting detainees, and then she shows up in this cartoonishly evil coat. so now the media has to continue to fixate on the messaging: what does she mean? this can't really be as asshole as it looks, right? meanwhile there is some footage delivered of her palling around with the child prisoners in an obviously arranged PR setting, so that can be played as part of the B-reel during ongoing discussion of The Jacket. what other things go in the B-reel for this story? perhaps scenes from the latest Trump rally in Duluth? declaration of the Space Force? Trump's recent round-table handjob roundup?

what are we not supposed to look at? that the EO doesn't really fix anything? that the GOP congress is preparing to get rid of Medicare and Medicaid to offset taxcuts for m/billionaires? (having Rep. Ryan on this morning blabbing about various legislation was only going to draw attention to that eventually if it went on long enough, very important for them to tamp it down as soon as possible.)

i think Trump's bunch is stacking the news cycle with tons of his nutty & evil bullshit antics intentionally. we have 24/7 news channels, but they present the same 1/2+ hour of headline news every hour, leaving at most only half the time to cover nutty & evil bullshit from non-Trump sources on the backside of the hour. Trump himself becomes the lightning rod, while everyone else in the GOP gets off free to do whatever they like with minimal news coverage. plus the entire Republican party is trying to rationalize how Trump is a normal president getting horribly mistreated by the deep-state press, so these tales of sadness, stupidity, and/or treason do no damage to his political prospects; so, the entire party leadership can run amok giving themselves everything they ever wanted with zero critical coverage as it happens. seems to be working.
