Alaska Air tells Trump it doesn't want to fly migrant children who have been split from families
Alaska Air Group said it told the federal government it does not want to transport migrant children who have been separated from their families.
Responding to a Puget Sound Business Journal inquiry Wednesday, the SeaTac-based airline said it does not support the Trump administration policy that instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to separate more than 2,000 migrant children from their families at the U.S. border with Mexico.
At Alaska Airlines, our values guide us to do the right thing," spokeswoman Bobbie Egan emailed. "To our knowledge, we havent transported any immigrant children who have been separated from their families, and today informed the government that we do not want to do so.
United Airlines and American Airlines earlier asked federal officials not to use their aircraft to transport the migrant children.
Based on our serious concerns about this policy and how its in deep conflict with our companys values, we have contacted federal officials to inform them that they should not transport immigrant children on United aircraft who have been separated from their parents, United CEO Oscar Munoz said in a statement on Wednesday.
