Trump claimed detaining kids was "the greatest deterrent there was to border crossings"

According to the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman], Trump had to be essentially dragged kicking and screaming into signing the order — and even as he did sign it, he kept arguing in favor of his baby jails.

“Trump was telling people hours before he signed the executive order on family separations that detaining kids was the greatest deterrent there was to border crossings and that his critics were wrong,” Haberman reports.

is allowing the countries where the refugees and other people are coming from, to have a decent quality of life.

We are not getting a ton of Canadians crossing the border. We aren't seeing tens of thousands of people from Costa Rica coming across, Chileans, Argentinians, etc...

Why? Because those countries have a standard of living that makes it possible for people to want to remain in their home countries despite some difficulties.

The US and other countries have, for a long time, exploited or tried to exploit the labor and resources of Latin American countries. We have interfered in elections, sent our military and CIA in to train right wing death squads, and have supplied drug cartels with endless supplies of money to buy guns (which we supply) and to corrupt politicians. We are not solely responsible for everything that is wrong in Latin America, but like many post colonial countries, the legacy or European interference and American interference tends to give people in those countries many fewer options.

If we allow those countries to develop without interference, and provide them with the opportunity to own and use their own resources for their own people, then there would be a DRAMATIC decrease in people trying to come into the US.

why were so many people showing up and taking their chances at the border?

Maybe it's because they were trying desperately to escape almost certain death in their home countries and it was worth at least trying to get into the U.S.?

I'm running out of words. I used to think "fuck" was the baddest of bad words but "fuck that guy" seems so mild now and it isn't working any more. "Damn him to the hottest fires of Hell" is good but I don't believe in Hell. Don't know what else to say.

Trump has zero humanity. He’d shoot those children in front of their parents if he could get away with it. And he’s got a Million followed who would gladly pull the trigger.
