I've been hearing and reading a lot of comments about being embarrassed to be an American right now. I get it. I also don't agree....yet. The real story is that as dark as things look, this can truly be one of our finest hours as a country. The beginnings are there. People from every walk of life are up in arms. Don't concentrate on the morons who will never be reached. This is about the outrage at injustice and the outpouring of humanity. It's about what brings us together. Its about what we share in common and the urge to fight for what's right. It's about what I believe is the overwhelming majority of people in America who don't have diseased hearts and minds. This is when our true character shines through. I don't accept that Trump and his minions reflect the true nature of this country.
It's easy to go down the rabbit hole of despair. If people of good character stand up and speak out, this is all going to work out in the end. I promise you. A year from now we're going to look back and see that this month was the turning point where as a country we realized that there are a lot more good people than bad and that it pays to take a stand. You've just got to get involved. Trump crossed the line a long time ago, but I think this time enough people figured it out. I don't give a damn what your idiot cousin said on Facebook, or what somebody posted in the comment section or what the mouth breathers are cheering this week at Trump's Bund meetings or what the half-wits on Fox News have to say. Half of them are Russian bots anyway. They don't speak for me and they don't speak for our country, unless we let them. The only way we would have anything to be embarrassed about is if we do nothing.
Take it from Bluto, "This could be the greatest night of our lives, but no, you're going to let it be the worst.....well just kiss my ass from now on, I'm not going to take this!"

(9,666 posts)As most of us here, I find myself in and out of that "rabbit hole of despair", in a seemingly endless Groundhog Day loop. Of course, that despair pales in comparison to which the people whom we are mistreating are experiencing. Knowing we can do better than we have perhaps makes it worse.
Thanks again for the rays of hope.
