"There's no wave of crime being committed by the immigrant community," Acevedo said. "As a matter of fact, a lot of the violent crime that we're dealing with is being committed by people that are born and raised right here in the United States" ...
"Having worked around this community my entire professional career, which is about 32 years, I know that the vast majority of them that I've encountered are hard-working. They're here to earn an honest living," Acevedo said ...

(11,738 posts)My children were getting an educational magazine after we bought some children's clothing or backpacks or something from an online catalog.
One of the issues had a pig with a wig on it. The wig was an orangish blonde. My then 5 year old said, "Mira, como Donald Trump" (Look, like Donald Trump). I almost peed. We kept the magazine. I'll have to scan and post one of these days.

That is why when Democratic politicians ask for sane immigration policies with a pathway to citizenship, they are doing so for the protection of the immigrants themselves. If you have legal status, you can participate more fully in the community. You can call the police without as much fear of bringing legal problems upon yourself. You can complain to City Hall. Bringing people out from the shadows makes this country stronger. Immigrants tend to be people who REALLY want to be hear and they do not take the United States for granted like many native born people do.
