Trump's End of Week Message on Immigration: Give Up!

The White House strategy for handling the family separation backlash has mostly been to blame lawmakers. Earlier this week, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told reporters, falsely, that Congress created the problem and that "only Congress can fix it." Two days later, the administration titled the executive order Trump signed to keep families together "Affording Congress An Opportunity to Address Family Separation." House Republicans have responded with a frantic effort to pass an immigration bill that would satisfy the president's demands. As they've worked to come to an agreement, Trump hasn't done much other than tweet about it. On Friday morning, the president came in hot before quickly fizzling out, ultimately telling GOP lawmakers to just go ahead and give up.

"Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November," Trump wrote before tweeting his support for a number of Republican candidates.

Though Trump has repeatedly blamed Democrats for the failure to pass legislation, it's the Republican members of the Republican-controlled House who have so far been unable to agree on a bill. In what was supposed to be an effort to move the process along, the president met with GOP members of Congress Tuesday night. Instead of addressing the specifics of the proposed legislation, Trump waxed on a number of unrelated subjects, including the failure of Trump critic Mark Sanford to win South Carolina's GOP primary. Lawmakers reportedly left the meeting unsure whether Trump supported a proposed hardline immigration bill or another more moderate one. Instead, the president only managed to express general support for the effort. "I'm with you 1,000 percent," Trump said. "I will not leave you in the wilderness."

"I love you people," the president added.

"...after the Red Wave!"

To me, this sounds like a signal to Republicans that Russia is going to steal the mid-term elections.
Mueller and the intelligence community have warned that Russian bots are aligning to steal another election. All of this chaos is meant to distract us.

Republicans up for election have bitterly complained to the pResident that this immigration morass is killing their poll numbers. This is tRump reassuring them to not worry... the Russians will save them.

lots of things can happen between now and november. I bet Putin already thought through and has a plan. Remeber trump will stop at nothing, natural disasters, terror attacks, etc. may change the course of election in strategic places. It’s not just trump whose future depends on 2018 election but Putin’s ambitions also. Don’t take anything for granted. Fascism is taking over USA. We need to push back against alt right militia groups that are on the rise and embolden and may intimidate strategically at polling places. Nothing is off the charts now.

what so ever. These people bitched and raged prior to rump's 2016 win, and couldn't do anything in Congress but vote NO. Now that they have Congress and the executive branches of government, they still can't do anything or get their act together, except award themselves w/ a tax cut, and using our social security and medicare benefits to pay for these tax cuts.

Our democratic nominees for 2016 need to hammer this in repeatedly, and showcase the poor leadership and inability to pass anything but extensive tax cuts for the ultra RICH. Point out that income disparity is increasing and that those attempting to live on minimum wages are unable to do so.

Point out that the republicans continue to attack and curtail health care for a majority of americans who otherwise, would never be able to afford medical insurance otherwise. Point out that they deliberately increased the federal debt w/ their 2018 tax cuts in order to take away or reducing social security, medicare, food stamps, chip, etc.
