"On Twitter, the president predicted the GOP would gain seats in the midterm elections, making it easier to get legislation to his liking."
Since EVERY poll indication, including ones by the Republicans, say the opposite is true, at least for the House of Representatives, if the Republicans do indeed gain seats where every logic says they will lose, then our electoral system has indeed been hijacked and is no longer in the hands of the people who cast the votes. All pretense (what there is left of it) will have been proven to have been abandoned.
"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."--attributed to Stalin.
Should this happen, McTurtle's Soviet States of America will not only have become reality, but blatant, in-your-face reality. The consequences will not be pretty, because the world and the loyal American opposition will be singing the song from the rock opera, "Tommy," "WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT."

(36,478 posts)Very little has been done to secure our electoral process. If the dems win, he will claim it was hacked. If they win he will claim the GOP won by the biggest landslide in historyexcept for his own election, of course. I have never seen the likes of someone so self-absorbed as this man.

(5,210 posts)to support - well, here -- It's a thread, so there's lots more. Cohn is a voting activist and expert on the subject of voting problems (esp. voting machines??) The cool thing about this is that it's a two-fold win: it subverts attempts to rig electronic voting machines AND it's the perfect foil to ward against electronic Russian interference.

This is a matter of national security. Tell your MOCs to pass the #PaveAct, @RonWydens election security bill, which requires that all voters have the option 2 use #handmarked #paperballots in federal elections & that states conduct Risk Limiting Audits 4 every federal race. 1/

(16,954 posts)won, it was because the system was rigged, which meant he knew it was actually rigged for him but something fell through if she did wind up winning.
I've been saying similar for a while. What really puts it over the top for me is how quickly Trump has pushed us towards Russian policies and procedures. If the above happens it's likely our country has been overthrown and will never be the same.
Here is to hoping our previous allies have not abandoned us.

W/in margin of error is one thing. But the point is...did the polls show a significant decrease in Clinton's numbers close to the election compared to before the Comey October surprise? No.

(1,997 posts)so nothing has been done to allow for verification and integrity of the vote. In my county, for example, just one or two people need to be bribed to look the other way when inserting the memory card from individual precincts and the tally can easily be changed. I wouldn't put it past any repub election official to want to win badly enough to do this.

(12,586 posts)after the poll results substantially disagreed with the official vote.
I remember hearing the polling organization saying its Ohio polls showed most people voted for Kerry, but once that state's returns mysteriously flipped in the middle of the night, the organization said it was "adjusting its poll results to reflect the actual vote."
The returns were consistently showing 54% - 46% Kerry before I went to bed at 1 a.m., when I awoke the result had swapped to 53% - 47% Bush. That's a huge swing! Before they were "adjusted," the exit polls reflected the earlier result, showing Kerry well ahead at the end of the race.

The election of 2016 changed everything. We showed up. We lost. It's that simple.
Lack of vigilance is just as unhealthy as paranoia.

(613 posts)Massively low Dem turnout in key states is what turned election to trump.
The Republicans have a two prong electoral strategy: court racists and suppress votes.
Those are the two things the Russians helped with.

How did he know that? Because he knew they were getting help from the Russians to fix it.
And I think you're spot on DFW --- they clearly are going to try to fix the Midterms in the Republicans' favor.
The question is, if they do steal another election, what will we do?

(54,405 posts)After the midterms, it will be too late to do much of anything.
BEFORE the midterms is when we need to be active. GOTV for every Democrat, because at this point, overwhelming their fraud with numbers too big to be manipulated is the only thing they can't plan for, without stationing armed guards at every poling place, denying every Democrat entrance. They can engineer a 1% swing. They cannot engineer a 5% swing (at least, I hope not).
