(5,477 posts)The more that is exposed about him, the more adamant they become that he is being unfairly treated, and persecuted because of all the 'good things' he is doing.
I've totally given up on any type of education for them...I let them post their off-the-wall fake memes without challenging them anymore, because nothing I say will make any difference at all at this point. Someone this morning posted the famous image of Elián González captioned as armed thugs taking a little boy away from his father, exactly the opposite of what was happening Nobody corrected them, and all the righties jumped in with 'see, they did it too!' comments. Totally hopeless.

(73,559 posts)that they will not. Time will tell. But I'll damned sure use the time between now and November to encourage them to vote for Democratic candidates. Our country depends on it.

Even if I point out the improbability of what they believe it has no effect

this is lizard brain material by now, you won't sway any of them with appeals to the cerebrum. they need to work it out with their own amygdalas, which i'd say seems very unlikely in the near future.

(32,710 posts)we might need more independents & repubs to flip on the GOP to counter Russian meddling/ massive voter purging/ disenfranchisement, etc. I don't have a personal relationship with any trumpers, but I think those that do should keep trying to get them off Fox News and out of the gop!

(2,602 posts)But Ive noticed a very odd silence.
Im trying to think how to call them out on their silence.
Most of the people I know who voted for him, did so because they have always voted republican. I get the feeling they are embarrassed. I base this on the fact that they have always talked politics and now they are quiet. Their Facebook pages show pics of grandkids and pets now, without a word about the disaster in the wh. They are even silent about Congress.
One caveat, I severed ties with any who were rabid T Rump supporters, and sadly, that includes my sister in law who was married to my late brother.

We've read of several high profile repubs who are sickened by trump caging children and have said so.
Read last night melania's poll numbers dropped by 6%. Should have been more.. maybe it was.

(11,474 posts)She turned republican about 7 years ago with a boyfriend and has got more rabid year by year she is around 36.
During the election I just deleted her weird rantings on FB because of my daughter I didn't delete her, she lately has been posting about her son and starting a new business making signs that are red, white, and blue on wood for walls.
She told her mom my friend who is dem like me that she wants to move to a red state because she can't handle CA anymore. She is so use to the benefits of the bay area I will love it when she hates the schools, medical, jobs, etc in a red state!

(13,421 posts)She also has spent her life dependent on farming as the family income source, and she still owns farmland that she rents to other farmers. She said last night she thinks that ripping babies away from parent at the borders is "the dumbest thing." The GOP wants to cut Veteran's benefits, and she thinks that is awful, along with anything that will "force" tRump to mess with "HER" Social Security.
She would still never vote for Hillary. EVER. She hates "That woman" so much she'd rather watch everything burn in this country.
She's my mom, and she's really old, and we don't let her go to the doctor alone anymore. She was a Trump voter.

(3 posts)Find a place, Mar a Lago golf course comes to mind, where all parents and lost children are brought together for one grand reunion tomorrow at noon. Surely Trump can call DHS and have all children and parents or their designated caretakers brought and all these poor children will not continue to be abused for one more day. Another point, what Trump and his minions did is criminal child abuse. There is not one legally qualified expert child psychologist who would testify differently in court. It is an open and shut case. Child abuse is a state crime not a federal crime. Surely there are some prosecutors in some of these states that can bring criminal state charges against Trump. He is not exempt from state criminal laws and cannot pardon himself or his accomplices. This is one of the beauties of our federal system. While he may not be liable for prosecution while in office it is almost better that he serve out his term knowing that when he leaves office he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for crimes he has committed against these children. Pence might just be worse. I hope the thought of facing an El Paso or New York city jury gives him nightmares once it gets through his head that there are criminal sanctions and he is looking at them.

(82,383 posts)That is an interesting take. Hope some state AG takes it up.
