A horrible thought has now lodged in my brain. Please tell me where I'm wrong.

Trump's press "event" yesterday where he blamed Hispanic immigrants/refugees
for murders and crimes ....

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-44580964

... is not different from Hitler blaming the Jews for Germany's loss in WW I.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/6852245/Adolf-Hitlers-hatred-of-Jews-stemmed-from-First-World-War.html

"The core of his hatred lies at the defeat of Germany in WW1," said Mr Riecker, "where Hitler blamed the Jews for defeat of the country, the collapse of the monarchy and the ruination of millions"

The people I know back home in the South still defend him and they credit him for the economy and jobs numbers. Despite the fact he is responsible for neither and a simple look at the trends will show anyone that the improvement in both of those things is due to policies begun during the last administration.

They see him as them. They want to be him. Loud, rich, unapologetic for anything they say.

7. To people who feel deprived of a clear social identity, Ur-Fascism says that their only privilege is the most common one, to be born in the same country. This is the origin of nationalism. Besides, the only ones who can provide an identity to the nation are its enemies. Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia. But the plot must also come from the inside: Jews are usually the best target because they have the advantage of being at the same time inside and outside. In the US, a prominent instance of the plot obsession is to be found in Pat Robertson’s The New World Order, but, as we have recently seen, there are many others.

the richest, most powerful country in the history of the world.

In the midst of full employment, growing economy, national security, the folks that (as a group) are benefiting the most are totally convinced they are getting screwed over by the very people that are truly (as a group) getting screwed.

I bet the rich in the time of dickens thought the poor had themselves to blame.

Despising those who are different is probably a common tendency.

Our press has failed us. They should have made clear the truth that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes. They should have made clear that immigrants are generally good for the economy.

Racism and bigotry always get a lot of votes. Hard times up the appeal but the base rate is always pretty good. Remember that if everyone voted Democrats would win almost every race. But many common folk don’t vote so those with cold hearts get a break. The electoral district bias favoring rural districts adds to their voting edge.

Sat Jun 23, 2018, 04:00 PM

except every once in awhile. This is because most of the media outlets are headquartered in large cities and those cities have higher minority populations, thus "poverty" is almost always shown as a "minority problem" because that's all the media sees when they step out the door of their glass office buildings. And the RW media skews it even further by trying to compare percentages in poverty within a group versus total numbers in poverty BY group.

So when a stat comes out from the census that 41,000,000 (as of 2016) are in poverty, the "perception" is that basically, almost the entire population of blacks in the U.S., is "in poverty". But the reality is very different and there is a lot of denial going on that keeps a whole group seething and lashing out at the wrong people.

I.e., if you have ~27% of blacks in poverty, that translates into about 11,000,000. That means the other 30,000,000 are non-black (meaning white or other minority ethnic groups). And this is not counting those who are just at or barely above the poverty line, which includes 10s of more millions - again predominately white (because whites are still the majority).

Sat Jun 23, 2018, 04:20 PM
Jun 2018

follows a very meticulous, well planned path which, if you are a history buff, you can see in the process of happening.

One of those steps, which is very important in getting the people to support them is to demonize and blame one or more groups of people for whatever the people are unhappy with. Hitler did this with the Jews, claiming all the bad stuff was caused by them. By the time he went after them to deport them to the concentration camps his supporters were cheering him for it.

Trump is doing it with a few groups. The Muslims, Black citizens and Mexicans and Latin Americans. He has the Deplorables foaming at the mouth and openly supporting him already.

So yes, your thought is right.

It’s not the first time that there have been parallels — far from it. We are clearly headed for WWIII unless we right the ship via this fall’s elections. But I am not optimistic. It will take much more than a majority in either or both houses to do that. Well, as I define “righting the ship” — which is returning to normalcy. Until 45 is ousted (and maybe until he is put in jail) nothing will be normal.

Hitler hair-do and mustache. I went to the rally today with a Jewish friend and when the different speakers spoke, she began to cry. There were a lot of tears there. I saw fellow teachers who were livid. Families are in jails! The govt planned to lock them all up but NEVER EVER had plans to reunite them!!!!! they have been planning it for over a year and uniting families was NEVER in their plans???? RESIST! REMOVE! Peace.

More cities have joined Wash DC and over 600 cities have an event planned. Some events are on other dates (San Diego is tomorrow June 23rd AND June 30th). Spread the word and RESIST....IT WORKS!
Find an event near you, donate, make phone calls and write to your reps, sign the petition. THANKS!!!!

The executive order that Donald Trump signed today is not a solution to the crisis created by his administration; it keeps kids imprisoned indefinitely, and doesn't reunite thousands of separated families. But it does show the administration is reacting to public pressure, so we will continue to increase our pressure for justice at hundreds of events on Saturday, June 30, to say that families belong together.
