Trump finally hit bottom.

He truly did go too low this time. This will never be forgotten. It’s one thing to say shit about people and places around the world or to exploit religions by labeling them terrorists. His misogyny is also not bad enough. His repeatedly proven lies don’t bring him down. Neither does mocking the handicapped or any of dozens of crass things he does.

But once he deliberately started hurting children his long streak of avoiding criticism ended with a resounding thud. He doesn’t see that though and just keeps digging that hole.

He has now committed crimes against children and no one will be able to or want to excuse him. Some will argue that his base will defend him but they won’t for long because they won’t want to be accused of child abuse or of being complicit or condoning it. His base won’t defend him for long because this isn’t just another easy instance of doubling down. Who wants to double down on terrorizing infants? Only sociopaths will end up defending him, if even they go that far.

Hannah Arendt wrote about fascism, she called it The Banality of Evil.
Took me a bit too long to fully understand that phrase.

Short intro for those who may not know of her:

Johanna "Hannah" Arendt was a German-born American philosopher and political theorist. Her eighteen books and numerous articles, on topics ranging from totalitarianism to epistemology, had a lasting influence on political theory.

I think it took a lot of people awhile to catch onto him because he acts like he has no depth, and perhaps we think evil should look...well, evil. Like Hitler or Manson etc.

In this time frame he can wirhdraw from NATO, WTO, UN, abolish/restructure multiple agencies, make significant cuts to medicare, SS and healthcare subsidies, fill out his naval military internment camps with up to 200k undocumented immigrants. Probable cause to stop the car and check docs - looking like illegal immigrant. Intensify trade wars to the point of breaking relationships with most of our allies. And all while alt right militias are growing in power and size across the country.

Wow, just wow.

It was like someone hammering a hole into my mind and shining a spotlight into it. I’ve always been highly analytical so I have come up with this same understanding overall, but not quite nailing it down. I guess it was due to not ‘getting’ that pivotal fact that their core is not grounded in being basically good or bad. Reading this piece clinched the fact that no morals, or religion, or conscience or upbringing is at their core. The only thing that motivates them is their emotional and psychological need to dominate and be superior. Rational thought is non existent.

It’s easier to ‘get’ them if you understand the social makeup of a troop of baboons where dominance of every member is the prime motivator. The only thing that defeats a troop leader is a stronger and more aggressive baboon who has spent his life living for that moment he can beat the leader.

Thanks for posting that!

Either Trump's capacity for atrocity, or Republicans' capacity to rationalize it into something positive.

If Trump were to order that each child separated from the parent or parents get their right legs amputated, Republicans would cheer him on for supporting American manufacturers of prostheses, and then call it "fake news" after the press points out there are none, and they are all made in Germany or China.

I refer you to Saturday's national opinion piece by Cal Thomas. In it he repeats all the talking points about how this is a Clinton era rule that Trump has decided to enforce, because "rule of law" or something. He makes Trump out to be the one sane voice in a sea of liberal hysteria about nothing. This isn't some internet post or a tweet, it appeared in hundreds of mainstream newspapers.

I really don't think this will move Trump's approval more than a point or two. We're just getting closer and closer to him shooting someone on 5th Avenue and getting away with it.

They ARE doubling down.

I finally got their rancid wretched asses to shut the fuck up yesterday by posting links to Trump telling Republicans to move off the topic until after the "red wave" and pointing out that their leader told them to stop - they weren't being "good" Trump supporters.

I'm also an elected member of Democratic County Committee.

We have ZERO false hopes that any Trumpsters will vote for our Mayoral candidate, council candidates, Malinowski or Menendez.

They TRULY believe this is an "invasion".
They truly do NOT BELIEVE these children are human beings - let alone children.
They STILL believe this was a "law" Trump enforced that was put in place by Clinton and ALL of this Obama's fault.
They are adamant that House and Senate Democratics are obstructionists. They do NOT know they have majorities and that just like how McConnell installed Garlands usurper on SCOTUS - they could implement 45's entire agenda.

If you aren't engaged at the most local of levels then I strongly encourage you to get involved.

Asking your committee members to put one iota of hope that they can reach Trump Fans is asking for the impossible. It cannot be done.

We have hope in flipping our House seat because HRC won in our district. Focus on the non voters and HRC voters.

That's where the wins will be.

And no, those comparisons are not as extreme as they seem. These types of men (yes, MEN) share much in common: their need to be controlling; their demand for absolutely loyalty; their claim to have an ultimate, superior vision/knowledge ["very stable genius"] that plain folks don't have; and their ultimate sadness over a situation that separated them from genuine love and compassion for infinity.

As the world has seen with other cults and their leaders, it rarely plays well in the long run-- it carries the seeds of its own demise, as too many legal, ethical and moral boundaries are crossed. At least that's how it used to work.

However, I'm not detecting any "bottom" with 45 and his Keystone-Kops lieutenants. Every single day, they find a way to go lower and weirder. And 45's supporters love that stuff, their minds only track into the "luv to make the libtards squirm" setting. That's it for them. Cult members don't give a shit about which issue is being discussed, as long as their figurehead exhibits hostility to brown-skinned outsiders. They don't even care if the wall gets built-- they know it probably won't. They just love the fact that he actually says it will.
