Sanders: 'Democrats have been serious about comprehensive immigration reform'

BY ELLEN MITCHELL - 06/24/18 10:32 AM EDT

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Sunday said President Trump must work with Democrats on immigration and make clear that the United States “is not a nation which tears children from their parents.”

“Clearly, anyone who looks at the record understands that the Democrats have been serious about comprehensive immigration reform, that’s what the American people want, and a path towards citizenship for people who are undocumented,” Sanders said during an interview on CNN’s "State of the Union."

Sanders also bashed the Trump’s administration's “zero tolerance” policy, which resulted in the separations of thousands of undocumented children from their families at the border. Trump recently halted those separations by signing a narrow executive order.
