A question about tv ratings

If I turn my tv off every time Trumps latest alt-reality speech comes on does it register in some data collecting place? If I change the Chanel does that register?

If one of the MSNBC programs goes to the daily press conference or a Trump rally and everyone changes the Chanel does MSNBC get that information?

I’m not talking about them showing part of a tape to show excerpts as part of the commentary or news they’re talking about. I’m talking about handing their audience over to Trump, or Sarah, or whoever.

That is, unless you are a Nielsen(or similar service) household, no one is monitoring what you watch.
