Are Democrats too consumed with taking down Trump? Many Democrats worry they are.

By Aaron Blake
June 26 at 6:45 AM

Some liberal activists are pushing for an increasingly confrontational, bare-knuckle (metaphorically) approach to combating Trumpism. There's the impeachment push. There's the politicization of previously less-political aspects of life. And there is the burgeoning and controversial push for standing up to members of the Trump administration in public — whatever form that may take.

But it's worth emphasizing that much of the Democratic Party isn't on board with this kind of approach. In fact, a recent poll suggested there was significant concern that their party is too consumed with taking down President Trump.

Yes, there are those polls showing three-quarters of Democrats favor impeaching Trump and removing him from office. But a Pew Research Center poll released in recent days provided a more nuanced, and perhaps more telling, window into just how many Democrats want to take down Trump at all costs. And the answer is: perhaps not as many as you'd think.

The poll asked voters about what people wanted to see if Democrats took control of Congress. Specifically, it asked them how much focus they would like to see on investigating the Trump administration.

In total, 58 percent of all voters said they were at least “somewhat” concerned Democrats would focus too much on probing the administration. And the number is actually substantial among Democrats themselves: 40 percent.

Democrats know that this administration and the present GOPs are taking away civil rights, voting rights, healthcare and the ability to live a least stressful life such as to income equality.

We refuse to have a dictator installed in the USA. We believe in democracy.

Plus this present administration is slowly bringing this country into a depression.

...is that while it is rightly a point of focus for activists and those who are dissatisfied with the parties soft, conciliatory, and "nice" approach of the past 15-20 years, that the actual Democrats who get elected are going to take Trump being gone (whenever that occurs) to mean that everything can go back to normal and that "the adults are back in the room" or that they'll look forward to "working with our friends across the aisle".

I'm fine with a focus on Trump but I want to make sure that the lesson gleaned from all of this is that Republicans are repellent, racist bags of shit who are against everything that this country is supposed to stand for, and DEFINITELY against everything that Democrats purport to stand for. I don't want to hear that they are going to "work with" these clowns. I don't want to hear that they are going to look for "bipartisan" or "sensible" solutions and compromises. I want to know that they are going to fix and repair and correct everything that Trump did and that they will hold the entire party TO THE MEMBER, accountable for Trump and his damage.

The "take our country back" was a mantra for the idiots in the tea party. We need to be hammering back with "No! We want' OUR country back." At least we would be able to elucidate what that means, unlike those troglodytes.

Just being Anti Trump isn't enough (never mind his ouster would be a huge benefit to the country).
Specifically... we need a clear better way with Immigration - because its the right thing to do
AND we must defang Trump's red meat racism. We also need definite better economy strategies...
we have them (and they put everyone to sleep) We've got to steal the spotlight from the daily bombard
of Trump falsehoods. Trump talks a big economy story but the fact is he's fucking up right and left.
People are feeling it (even if they haven't quite realized it). The fact is Trump is screwing things up at
every turn... his administration is full of crooks, he's ruined all our international alliances, he's dismantling
the Constitution, he's persecuting the free press, he's imprisoning babies in concentration camps
(say that again)... but nothing is more crucial (in the upcoming elections) than improving (all) people's
daily lives with demonstrably better actions. This isn't us versus them... this is us for all of us.

involve traditional shit like GOTV, "pandering" to local issues that their constituents care about, and oh-I-don't-know...talking to people.

I don't get a lot of the "many Dems think" vibe going on about impeachment. Sounds like RW scare tactics to inflame the base, but as usual, without a lot of meat behind it.

how the system works. Impeachment by itself does nothing. It will not remove Dump from office.

If Congress impeached Dump, then the Senate would have to convict -and- remove with at least 67 votes.

Don't waste your energy on yelling for impeachment. One step at a time.

First step: vote and work your @sses off to get like minded people to vote.

followed by a statement about "many Democrats" worrying. In the article itself, standing up to the tRumpers is "controversial." "...much of the Democratic Party isn't on board with this kind of approach."

No, no, we must be civil, polite, and apologetic. We must never, ever confront or criticize or make uncomfortable "members of the tRump administration in public."

These monsters must be allowed to proceed with their dismantling of everything that makes this country great while Democrats stand by and say "tut, tut?"

From what I can see, we are doing a great job of fielding excellent, strong candidates at the local level (taking back those governorships), as well as attacking the national fascist policies embodied by Trump.

I will always favor impeachment because it is the proscribed solution to this problem.

His voters and the party leadership were okay with that and gave him a pass because he gave them they wanted. They won't go away or change their minds if he is forced out. They will just look for a more capable disgrace, someone even more dangerous because he will be able to cover up his crimes better. Unless we change the factors that led to his rise to begin with.
