(4,429 posts)I think we could lose it. Nelson is hardly charismatic -he has always held that seat......just 'cause. Scott is going to give him a major run (and while Scott is not charismatic, he has money and the power of his 'pulpit' - the Gov. seat).
Glad to see Nelson is up - but this will be a long, hard race.

(14,565 posts)I've seen that mentioned here. Nelson for whatever reason has not been advertising. Meanwhile, Scott is on the World Cup telecasts all the time, including on the Spanish versions. My neighbors are Cuban and their grandmother watches the Spanish telecasts. The son told me that Scott has been bombarding those channels even more than the English versions. I guess Scott realizes he needs to made a dent in that demographic.
Scott's theme is that Nelson has been around too long. Every ad shifts from one voter to another saying 45 years in politics is too much and it's time to make a change.
Toss up race but given this type of national tilt I would expect Nelson to narrowly prevail.

(4,429 posts)and buy his way in (that's what he did, for the Governorship). He has way more$ than Nelson
I have moved, but I lived in N. Fl. for many years. Scott was hated in some of those prison-is-the-only-industry-panhandle cities/towns.....and yet they voted for him every time

(14,565 posts)In 2010 I think we could have avoided Rick Scott altogether, if not for the moronic text message that an aide sent to Alex Sink during a high profile CNN debate in the final days. That completely put her on the defensive and shoved Scott over the top.
He was only competitive in the first place due to his fraudulent millions.
In 2014 it was a tight race but I always thought Scott would win, given that national terrain and as an incumbent. In fact, I bet on Scott to win at a very reasonable price. I have no problem wagering against my partisanship or against my favorite sports teams.

(14,167 posts)That moronic governor Greg Abbott is +12 over his Democratic opponent. So, there is some ticket splitting that will probably happen -- people will vote for dumb Abbott, but they prefer O'Rourke over Cruz. This is a fire that needs to be stoked.
Beto's favorability only increases the more voters in TX get to know him. We should be investing heavily in this race.
