GOP’s New ‘Unhinged’ Ad Features Kathy Griffin, Samantha Bee, Fires, Chaos, And Of Course, Maxine Waters

Last night, the Republican Party released their newest ad, and as political campaign ads go, this one nailed it on timing, at least.

The news since the weekend has been dominated by stories of confrontations with Trump officials and the comments by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) urging her supporters to harass Trump officials in public. The ad features Waters along with activists from Hollywood like Kathy Griffin, Samantha Bee, Johnny Depp, Snoop Dogg, and Madonna, as well as Bernie Sanders (still?), Nancy Pelosi (of course), and a limousine on fire (because blue collar) to round out the imagery.

Every cable news show is now discussing the topics of civility, political violence, and “unhinged” rhetoric. So the ad, titled “The Left in 2018: Unhinged” is striking a hot iron.

President Donald Trump has been using “unhinged” on Twitter to characterize Democrats, and like many other Republicans, has put Rep. Waters forward as the “face” of the party. Expect to see more of that.

And expect the word “fearmongering” to feature prominently in criticism of the ad.
