Just as progressives have to pledge to support the DCCC-backed candidate who beat them in a primary, so now we should expect the same from Schumer, Gillebrand, Tom Perez, Pelosi and the gang. Let's hear it for the democratic socialist. After all, it's the "civil" thing to do.

(16,646 posts)At this point the DCCC wants a majority and they aren't particularly prone to cutting off their noses to spite their face. If she needs help (and she probably won't) I'm sure they'll step up. I'm a bit suspicious that Crowley may help a bit with fund raising himself. He's almost assuredly headed into the private sector and wants a democrat there as much as anyone.

(16,975 posts)She sounds like she wants to do this on her own. She doesn't want "corporate" money and anything not out of her constituent's own pockets sounds like she will criticize. If she criticizes any unpure money flow, it sounds like she's got this covered.

(11,175 posts)Given that Ocasio-Cortez's district is very blue, I wouldn't expect the DCCC to spend any money there, regardless of who won the primary.
Nebraska's 2nd congressional district, however, is a different story. The district has a PVI of R+4, so it's the kind of seat that could be flipped in a blue wave.
The DCCC was backing a former Republican, but he lost the Democratic primary to a progressive Democrat, Kara Eastman.
In other such races, the DCCC has an unfortunate track record. All too often, it backs the more conservative candidate in the primary. Then, if the Democrats in the district have the bad taste to go against the DCCC's wishes, the DCCC goes into a sulk, takes its money, and goes home, refusing to give the Democratic nominee any help in the general election.
I won't be upset if the DCCC doesn't spend any money on Ocasio-Cortez, because there's not much point in running up an even bigger margin in a completely safe district. Let them direct that support to Kara Eastman instead.
