It might be time to give our younger members some survival tips.

(22,757 posts)"...the overturning of Roe v. Wade... the kind of aggressive, state-enforced violence against women and trans people that we expect from totalitarian regimes: women forced to carry every fertilized egg to term, at all costs, and imprisoned or worse for not complying...

(31,525 posts)had gotten pregnant, but she went to see an old woman who lived in a shack way back off the highway who had "killed the baby" for her. I was pretty naive at the time, but it was pretty commonly known that "Aunt So and So" could take care of problems like that.
This was in the late 50's in rural SW Missouri. The bc pill hadn't come out yet and even when it did, in the mid 60's, unmarried women couldn't get it. Many of the girls I went to high school with had to quit school when they got pregnant. Some married, some didn't, some went away for a while and came back home without babies. Lots of young couples married hurriedly and many "preemie" babies were born.
There is no way that I want young women to go through that again.

(27,169 posts)My mother was 25 years old, single, professional woman.
When she went to the doctor to confirm her pregnancy, he told her he could arrange for her to take a "vacation" in Japan (where abortion was legal).
She was a Bible-thumping holy roller, and stormed out of there and went to a new doctor.
When I heard the story, I felt bad for the doctor. I'm glad that he was there to give options to women who needed them. I'm just sorry my mother treated him so poorly.
I hate to think we'll be returning to those days.

We can't go back to that.

Period. Count on it.
After that will be the death penalty for any woman caught doing so. Count on it!

I'll have to find out how to join an organization to help young women get the care they need.

What next, prohibition? If Dump doesn't drink, none of us should drink. Wouldn't surprise me.
