Because after all is said and done, Flake, McCain, Corker...they're all RW pieces of chit. Maybe less so than some but still, right-wingers to the end.

They want a conservative SCOTUS as much or more than anyone and they're not going to let a little patriotism stand in their way.

What's f'ing pisses me off is that I likely won't see a progressive SCOTUS in my lifetime. Damn - that would have been nice.

There won't be a tie to break if everyone but McCain votes and votes their party. It will be 50 to 49. However, I don't think any SCJ nominee has ever had no votes from the other party.

Flake or Corker will vote against any nominee who is a qualified mainstream conservative judge. Both men are conservative and they will judge the nominee - not Trump in deciding how they will vote. If you look back, there have been some nominees withdrawn because the President's party pushed back - Harriet Miers nominated by GWB is an example. The stated reason was she was seen as not meeting the high bar of being someone who should be on the Supreme Court.

If Trump nominates his own "Harriet Miers", he will likely get the same push back especially because it would not take many Republicans privately telling him that the nominee is unacceptable for him to see that there might not even be 50 votes. (They only have 50 votes unless McCain is up to coming to DC.) However, if he picks a "well qualified" distinguished conservative judge - who we will hate - the vote will likely be 50 (plus any Democrats who feel that they should reject only with cause) in favor.

11. If McCain can't vote (I doubt that he will) then it would take only one republican to flip....

...to make it 50-49 against the nominee. Wonder who might (and hope there is one) break from the pack?
