(90,859 posts)I would really like Diane Feinstein to announce her retirement and anoint her own successor -- such as Adam Schiff. We already know his character from his terms in the House. I have no opinion on De Leon at all. The voters would still have the final word , but it would be nice if Schiff, Lieu, or one of our other outstanding and outspoken House members were to get a boost from her.

But according to 538s "Trump score," which determines how often a member of Congress has voted with the president, Feinstein is the most out of step with her constituents of any Democratic senator."
"Although Feinstein has notably shifted toward the left of the Democratic caucus on issues involving the status of the "Dreamers," undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, de León's long-term support of immigrants was one of the biggest issues that propelled him ahead of Feinstein among partys activists. Her harsh rhetoric about "illegal" immigration from the 1990s is currently being used by right-wingers in national campaigns against immigration reform."
"Calling himself "the president of the most progressive legislative house in America, de León took a not-so-subtle dig at Feinsteins troubled record on the most contentious issue of the Trump era, promising party activists over the weekend: Youll never have to guess where I stand."
I will not be surprised if she moves to the right if the race looks close to try to rile apathetic no horse in the race republicans to vote for her

(68,715 posts)is on fire...we could stop judges if we managed to get the Senate...spend the money flipping Red seats... not on replacing sitting Democrats. I don't give two fucks about taking a Senate seat held by a powerful Democrat..it is foolish and a waste of money. I hope he goes down in flames and is embarrassed. Even running shows a complete lack of judgement.

(68,715 posts)there as a child and when I met him. It was a house seat...not a Senate seat...and I am not sure she wins in two years...very tough district. Had the race been held with the Cuomo's race...she would have lost in my opinion. I consider primarying Democrats foolish...when red seats could be flipped using that money ...but this year is is just reprehensible. I might have voted for De Leon nationally at some point...seems to have a bright future but I won't now...if he runs for president, I would not even consider him in a primary...feel the same about all who took on sitting Democrats in the age of Trump. We need to flip red seats not replace Democrats with another Democrat which does nothing to get us the house or the Senate.

Why be so transparent? Is flying under the radar so difficult? Or are deception, false assumptions, and a complete detachment from reality a thing?
