The nation's largest police union on Friday endorsed Donald Trump for president, lauding his commitment to police officers.
The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) gave the GOP presidential nominee its endorsement after he received support from more than two-thirds of the group's national board.
"[Trump] has seriously looked at the issues facing law enforcement today. He understands and supports our priorities and our members believe he will make America safe again," said Chuck Canterbury, the FOP's national president.
"He's made a real commitment to America's law enforcement and we're proud to make a commitment to him and his campaign by endorsing his candidacy today."

He met with top officials from the FOP at Trump Tower in May, and he has made stops on the campaign trail at the union's local chapters. "I'm on your side 1,000 percent," Trump told an FOP chapter in North Carolina in August. "What you do is incredible."

(17,390 posts)...local governments now can't collect union dues unless each member affirmatively agrees to pay. Thus, there is a strong incentive to simply free ride off of the union, but not pay for the services rendered by the union.
The Janus decision was absolutely devastating to public employee unions.

(2,787 posts)Police unions have long been in the pocket of republicans. They always do the dirty work of the business class such as busting up strikes of private sector unions. So republicans will not cross them so they do not really need funding to survive. Even if they did need funds unions can take donations and as long as these guys do a good job of stepping on rights of everyone else you can bet they will have no shortage of donors.

(129,652 posts)ALL unions are going to be impacted because the one in the WH doesn't really give a shit about anything but himself. The FOPs will figure it out soon enough and ultimately (at least in urban areas), when it comes time to for city budgets, the pay increases might not come much anymore if at all.

(2,787 posts)ask for donations and there will be no shortage of right wing assholes with a lot of money willing to give it to them as long as they stomp on the rights of others. Most unions this is gone to hurt badly, but Police unions are a terrible example.

(129,652 posts)because they are selfish by their very nature. "Donations" will only get them so far, notably because this country is going to be heading for a recession. Oil prices are up today (U.S.'s WTI is $73/bbl & Brent is up to $78/bbl). And with a trade war underway, all that cheap Walmart stuff is going to be more expensive because the Walton family is surely not going to lose their profits.

(11,885 posts)Of doing this to all that he cons them for support, then does the opposite of his claims. Businesses should remember this now. Farmers should remember this now. People after their tax scam bill and lost their ACA plan or face huge cuts to their Medicaid , Medicare , and soon to destroy Social Security plan now should realize he's telling you the opposite of what he'll do. He's lying.
