Court "Freedom of speech and privacy as well as LGBT and women's rights" - Stephanie Ruhle

She framed it correctly.

I am a woman and LGBT, but I was also raised Catholic and I guarantee you that every time people on the left make the Supreme Court selection about abortion rights, you energize the right wing fanatics FAR more than you motivate the ambivalent middle.

This court pick is about individual freedom versus plutocracy: the right to privacy, worker’s rights, free speech, Obamacare, environmental protections, reversal of Citizens United, assuring fair elections... and probably access to birth control. This court pick is about the ability of a handful of rich powerful people to disempower the public. This is about the loss of your right to a day in court if a company poisons you or your children.

The right wing emphasizes abortion as THE central issue, as the ONLY issue, for a reason.

The right wing has used talk radio to pre-program the minds of Americans for three decades. It’s going to take at least one decade of counter-programming to get them to stop voting against their own best interests.

When the RW gets to frame the debate about abortion, all other principles are forgotten.

Not only evangelicals, but Catholics, many of whom may have gone through intense teachings on the subject as I did, in the 70s.

Most of my liberalism was learned in those same classrooms.
