That was the consensus of several articles I read today.
This trade war is directed targeted at the red states by China etc.
They are going to put the hurt on trump's base big time.
Soybeans alone are already taking a hit in the hundreds of millions and the farmers are cool with it as long as we are so angry.
Another article talked about a plant that depended on steel and may have to layoff more hundreds, after just laying off people this week and everyone in the town that didn't lose their job yet was like "I'm cool with it."
Yeah, I've been angry about a lot Trump does but this time the tears running down my face are from laughter.
I'm going to keep laughing too. These people are idiots.
One thing I'm not going to waste my anger on is saving them.
We can focus on the kids taken from their parents, women's rights, civil rights, etc, but red state voters are not on my list.
We'll get around to saving them when we're back in power and fixing the giant economic collapse that the Republicans created, like they do every time they hold power in this country, like we do every time.

(5,515 posts)They're only ok with it because they don't think it will effect them. They assume that the economic impact will be no big deal, and nothing will change with their current standard of living. They're okay with other people being hurt, though.

(9,074 posts)The will give up their jobs, give up their health, give up their security, give up their children, give up their souls and try to tear down everyone along with it because they must hate their lives so much that they cannot tolerate anyone else around them.
If they can't make anything better or if no one does it for them then all they have is the ravings of a madman and that feeds the anger and fear that they refuse to do anything about in their own lives and everyone else must pay-and-pay-and-pay for it.
I'd have more compassion for them if they could ever face the truth and realize that the world is a much better place when people care for one another.
What misery it must be to be a Trump zealot.

They knew the risks, I say let them crash
If they go under, leave them. They have no problems doing it to others. The biggest mistake the left has made for the last 4+ decades is helping them because they're part of us (taking the high road, crap). Until they go under and are forced to reap what they sow, they're never gonna get it

(12,588 posts)As long as someone (us) is there to bail them out, they'll keep doing the same destructive behavior. They need to face the cold, hard reality of their actions. It's hard -- no one wants to see another person suffer (except maybe Trump, Dubya, Rumsfeld and Cheney), but we have to recognize that letting them bottom out is the best situation for all of us.
As long as we clean up their messes -- economic, environmental, sociological, etc. -- they'll keep doing the same shit.

(31,261 posts)Their hatred for the "elites" come from their resentment to being economically left behind. In my region of Florida, the economically vibrant cities are the blue ones. My city is mildly red, the nearest blue city is at least 1.5 times richer. My city is becoming more purple and it shows, the nearest blue city used to be more than 2 times richer.
I favor allowing red areas to collapse, the majority of voters in those places make decisions that indicate they prefer economic collapse and no services. Stop using funds collected in cities and surburbs to build roads, utilities, Internet into those places, let the rugged individualism that they insist they have get them through.

(500 posts)in the midst of rural farms. We rent 50 acres to a farmer and he is flipping out (he did not vote Trump). And while not all the farmers here voted Trump, most did. And they are afraid...all of them. A half dozen or so have already converted to cattle but those locked into contracts are totally screwed and they know it. Two big farm auctions yesterday in this area as well...mostly dairy equipment and big farm equipment.
So...you can not focus on saving them even though many are not Republican but just remember that there will be little left to save anyway. Big Ag will move in and buy all this land for next to nothing when it all collapses and then they will be in firm control of our food supply. This is a destruction made by man for a purpose. What's left of the family farms will be gone. So far the CSA'a are hanging in but with mounds of new paperwork (Trump is not deregulating for these small farms) and growing fees, they will not be far behind.
And all this will come home to roost in food prices.
I am angry as hell but I will not forget the many folks here who did not vote for this. I can't use a wide brush. And I will bet a whole lot of those gloating online aren't really who they say they are because the farmers I know have little time for online bitching.

(17,988 posts)I am right here with you in the midst of soybean farms. All the way to Indiana. The whole area is Republican.
I do know that just once the voters all up and down the river voted Democrat, shocking every one for the first time in 100 years. Just a few years ago. Let us see how they feel by November.
The tariffs will have really kicked in again. In Marysville the higher steel prices. The trains that unloaded auto parts, filled them with soy beans to ship back. That will be hurting them all
The Cinncinnatti/ Dayton corridor is now booming. But it is predicted that 59% of Ohio products are exports and will be affected.

When we are back in power, we should focus on helping purple and blue states (not that they need it, because most are run properly), just like Trump and republicans tried to screw blue states and cities with their tax legislation.
