(55,445 posts)It was never supposed to win, and the people who had been whoring for Brexit for years were more shocked than anyone that they actually won... And THEN they get scared shitless because the bill has come due on all those "we can have our cake and eat it too!" promises that were never, ever going to happen because they never planned on Brexit winning... and because they never thought Brexit would win, they completely undersold the immense undertaking of extricating themselves from 40 years of EU law and policy...
So long story short, they don't know how to do it because they don't know what they're doing since they were convinced they could have all the fucking with the ex- after the divorce without dealing with the chores, bills, job, and parenting responsibilities...

(82,849 posts)Atrios has been on Brexit since the campaign, and one of the recurring motifs is this idea by some of the Brexiteers that they can pick and choose what parts of the EU they get to jettison (all the bad things) while keeping the things they like. Then they get mad because the remaining countries in the EU don't feel any obligation to smooth out Britain's path to exit. "You heartless skank! I'm leaving forever. Now, help me move the waterbed." "Ha, ha, ha! No."
