The Washington Post on Thursday reported that North Korean officials had ditched a planned meeting with American officials to discuss returning the remains of U.S. soldiers killed during the Korean War. Despite this, President Donald Trump is still trying to project confidence that things are going well with his efforts to get North Korea to dismantle its entire nuclear arsenal.

In a Thursday afternoon tweet, the president posted a copy of a “very nice note” that he had received from Kim, who praised Trump for his “strong will and sincere efforts” in improving relations between the U.S. and North Korea.

North Korea so far has not actually done anything to dismantle its nuclear weapons — and it has actually used increasingly hostile rhetoric to describe American officials in recent weeks, such as when it called out Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for employing “gangster-like” tactics during negotiations.

The most humiliating episode, however, came two days ago when Kim Jong-un reportedly skipped a meeting with Pompeo in order to go to a potato farm.

Given all this, Twitter users immediately buried Trump in ridicule for touting the supposed “progress” that he’s making in getting Kim to give up his nukes.
