(9,753 posts)The term "Diaper Don" has legs. Trump being Trump, this sort of humiliation will bite deep.

(18,124 posts)I can never forget what Comey did also, 10 days out from 2016 election. It's getting all pretty clear.

(37,648 posts)But we do have evidence that Russia did...even going so far as to hack into election systems AND voter registrations. They are not going to tell us what kind of damage was done, even if they know. Starting election night, even with the Comey thing, I suspected that Russia had been responsible for Trump's win in 2 or 3 states, which gave him the electoral votes he needed. Because even with the Comey thing, Hillary was far enough ahead in 13 of 14 polls (or was it 12 of 13 polls?) to win.
It was Russia. But of course, Russia may not have made the difference, if it weren't as close as it was. Comey had some effect, as did the Sarandon group urging voting for Jill Stein (a RUSSIAN-connected candidate) and the other 3rd party candidate. And of course those who didn't vote at all.
It shouldn't have been that close. But I blame Russia.

(61,650 posts)The media breathlessly reported that "Hillary was near indictment." Lots of people who would have voted for her stayed home. Lots of Republicans who were disgusted with Trump decided that maybe they could vote for him anyway.

(37,648 posts)Remember how surprised everyone, including Trump, was that Hillary lost? That's because all signs indicated, even the latest polls close to election day, that she would win.
She was leading in almost all the polls, almost to the same degree as before Comey.
I think there was so much going on at that time, and people may have been desensitized to the email thing, that it didn't move the needle much. People had pretty much made up their minds by then.
I HAVE seen an October surprise kill an election win: for Kerry. There was no doubt...his numbers started going down, and he wasn't do that well before.
I think I still have the last poll listings in Nov 2016, if you want to see them. (Yes, I'm a political junkie. I confess.)

(18,124 posts)but to ill-informed voters and sit out the election voter, Comey provided extra impetus to the anti-HRC crowd. Yet now we see Mueller exposing herr trump and putin's corruption to the world. No argument, just commenting on Comey's obvious faux pas 10 days out from the election. Trump got a bump out of that. It still was political and it did piss a lot of people off like me. Comey is dirt to me. Numbers moved or not.
