Number of protests for Trump-Putin Helsinki summit rises to 10

Looks like Helsinki will welcome Trump as well as Brussels and the UK...

The number of demonstrations taking place during the Trump-Putin summit has risen to 10, says Helsinki Police.

The largest, Helsinki Calling, is expected to attract 10,000 participants on Sunday, based on the number of people expressing their attendance or interest on Facebook.

While enthusiasm on Facebook does not always translate into concrete action, Abdirahim “Husu” Hussein, one of the organisers of Helsinki Calling, is hopeful that up to 15,000 people could take part in the rally.

“Helsinki Calling is not a protest against Trump or Putin,” Hussein said.

“Instead, we will be there to defend human rights, freedom of speech, democracy and freedom of the press.”

Other protests include those by Amnesty International, which will demonstrate for human rights and by the Youth of the National Coalition Party, which will march against Trump’s trade policies and Russia’s annexation of the Crimea.

Rufi, a Finnish-Russian association, will protest against russophobia, while the youth wing of the Finns Party will organise a "Welcome Trump" rally to show support for Trump’s immigration policies.

In addition, there will be protests for women’s rights, Afghanistan and South Cameroon, the police said.
