It's time to sedate the pig and get out the lipstick.
The Republicans kept rolling the dice and they came up with snake eyes. So long as they were winning, they were willing to support Donald Trump and willing to defend him against all trespasses. They gambled and lost.
Now, they need to put the best face on it all. They are devout believers in the power of PR and believe they have the power to convince people of almost anything. How do they define what happened yesterday? How do they sell it?
How do they normalize it? Do they attack the "fake news" and the Democrats for trying to make a mountain out of a molehill? Unfortunately, the entire world has been watching for the last week and they are not ready to accept the PR of the Republicans.
It's a "Come to Jesus" moment for the Republicans, in my opinion. They can say the President "made a mistake" or that his comments were "unpatriotic" but they were not "treasonous". They can blame it all on Donald Trump.
But, it's difficult to see how they escape responsibility for gambling with the security of this country? It is they that are "unpatriotic". Whatever Donald Trump has done, the Republican Party is complicit. They can run but they can't hide...

(182,861 posts)I see that the White House has issued talking points that actually says that Trump isn't going to focus on the past. Seriously that's a talking point for them.

Unbelievable, right? Watch for this.

(111,107 posts)The Republican Party would never support a "traitor". That is just hyperbole by the Democrats and by the "fake media". Republicans would never be that stupid. Huh-uh...

(111,107 posts)How does an ignorance plea work in a court of law? Or even, the court of public opinion?

(47,563 posts)Right now, the law is nothing. Public opinion is everything.
How does an ignorance plea work in the court of public opinion? See Barry Bonds. They're gonna put him in the hall of fame even though everybody saw him cheat every day, for years on end.
As far as trump's treason goes, I didn't say their spin was going to work.. I said that's how they're going to try to spin it.
kentuck
(111,107 posts)I don't think it is going to work. Everyone will probably be dizzy from the spin before the day is over?
