Uhhh, that's your takeaway from this, Michelle?

Michelle Goldberg is a genius: "In November several outright Nazis & white supremacists will appear on Republican ballot lines. [T]he time has come for a serious national conversation & political insiders across the land are asking: Has the Democratic Party become too extreme?"

(46,081 posts)I assumed the pundit quoted meant this as a serious question. What a sad state of affairs.
Hooray for Michelle Goldberg.

(82,849 posts)Boy, Democrats really risk things this year by staking out popular positions that enjoy widespread public support on wages, worker rights, education, immigration, foreign policy, the environment, and presenting a vision of government that works for more citizens and not just the overrich.
It's just so heart-warming to see the concern expressed by conservatives that Democrats are hurting their electoral chances in November by appealing to voters and their issues.

(4,407 posts)People like Lieberman should just go away. The Democratic Party will only be invigorated by a move towards the left.

(19,240 posts)who might have cold feet about voting for Nazis and KKK and fascists. Basically, it is telling them "Don't feel guilty about voting for a party that includes Nazis, KKK and fascists. There are too many "extreme" people in the Democratic Party you used to vote for. And by "extreme" we mean gays and Blacks and immigrants and Muslims. So vote WHITE. It is good for you."
In response, Democrats just need to keep showing how ugly and brutal Nazis and the KKK and fascists are. And especially how they shoot up schools and how Trump is not doing anything to stop them. The soccer moms will decide that the right wing is much scarier (and dangerous to their kids) than brown folks.

(11,744 posts)It discusses the traditional fears that the Democratic Party has had in embracing more progressive candidates and ideals and juxtaposes the reality that many of the policies being promoted are not actually radical and are popular with general voters.
The whole introduction was tongue in cheek, showing how really radical the right wing is, but on how much focus is always put on the Democratic Party when populist and more left leaning ideas or candidates start to emerge.
The article poked fun at the difference while showing how relatively mainstream the "radical left's" ideas are.
