(82,849 posts)By this time, most folks online are perceptive enough to notice that the ad doesn't identify the person allegedly walking away, and are spotting the phony crap so much faster. The PUMA template from 2008 is just about worn out.
In case you don't remember, PUMA stood for "party unity my ass," and was a supposed feminist backlash against the Democrats nominating Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton. PUMAs ostensibly were committed Democrats who were now going to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket because Sarah Palin was a woman. PUMA sprang up so apparently spontaneously that some media folks were fooled for a while. The astroturf group was eventually exposed, but it hung around for an appallingly long time.

(82,383 posts)I recall their claim that Republican women were more attractive than Democratic women. They had photos to prove their point. All of famous women. But they had to doctor the photos of the Democrats to make them ugly. So stupid they proved they were wrong or the doctoring would not be needed.
