No. Does not have to be total. You haven't done the math. Of course you can't reverse it overnight. Bernardo de La Paz Jul 2018 #12

The only way to turn it around is to ban all forms of fuel driven transportation. Shut down all industries that emit smoke, close all coal mines, and institute a ban on logging.

It must be total. Dialing it back a notch will be like sticking a finger in a dike that's already blown. Nature works like glaciers. Industrialization has been going on for a hundred years. You can't reverse it overnight.

And you haven't even considered sequestration or radiation management.

such an optimist. Tell your stuff to the polar bears and other fauna and creatures, humans included who choose to believe you. This planet and our destruction of it have been hitting environmental tipping point(s) for years now. And with more humans added every day it can only get worse. UNEP 2012 5th Global Environmental Outlook in 2012 says about everything needed to poop pah any answer like yours You do the math. Sequestration would have to be done on an unbelievable scale. Radiation management? Right.

only there does come a time where acceptance of one's personal position as part of a doomed species becomes appropriate. Been in war, didn't give up. Knocked off a 30-foot bridge, onto a concrete street, with the help of very good doctors, didn't give up. Survivor of stage 2 cancer and 7 weeks chemo and radiation, 3 surgeries and damn good oncologists and radiologists. Didn't give up.

A global catastrophe? That is something different because I cannot do anything personally but try to walk as many places as I can. Yet the Denali's, MKZ's Ford F550's, the Dodge Rams with trailers zooms past all I can do is shake my head. I'm the only one walking. By and large, humanity has their heads in the sand in deep, deep denial, especially here in greedy America. GIVE UP? No. I can just shake my head and keep walking until the rest want to do that also.

That's defeatism.

and the diverse and the widely happening environmental crisis, they sure have ample reason to fear. My hope is that a way will be found to rectify the damage human beings are doing to our living spaceship. Yet.... Good luck is all I can say to your position.

7. Shocking Global Map Shows the Extent of a Global Heat Wave

Earth is boiling under record-high temperatures. Global heat waves have landed thousands of people in the hospital and fueled massive wildfires in places ranging from Greece to the Arctic Circle.

An animation called "earth" shows just how high worldwide temperatures really are. The animation, designed by computer programmer Cameron Beccario, an engineering manager at Indeed Tokyo in Japan, updates every 3 hours with weather data taken from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction's Global Forecast System. [What Is Earth's Average Temperature?]
