Her show is her job. Her contract probably gives her a certain number of days off. She doesn't have to be on the job all the time any more than you or I do.

Only I practice catch and filet. I love fresh fish and because I fish I eat the freshest possible.

When Ed Schultz had a show before her's, they would occasionally talk about fishing as he handed the air off to her. She mentioned some of her trips once.

She also takes time off the air to do news specials, she did one on a group that transports dangerous nuclear material out of unstable or cooperating countries for safe storage in a US facility. President Obama started the group up, it is mostly like Special Forces and CIA, their function is to find the stuff and remove it, Rachel referred to them as badass, in a good way.
