Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt is now apparent to everyone except Trump and his disciples that Russia is doing all it can
to further divide Americans, setting neighbor against neighbor and exploiting pre-existing tensions wherever they can. In these efforts, they sometimes impersonate fascists and sometimes anti-fascists. One minute they post as liberals; the next as conservatives. Their goal is not to favor any one political party, ideology or race. Their goal is to so disrupt this nation's government that we, the people, lose faith in it.
I am reasonably certain that they have not ignored DU. When we consider the scope of their efforts and their success so far, why should we believe that ANY accessible internet platform is not being seeded with posts intended to offend, anger and frighten us?
The antidote to this trollery must be administered by the users of this board and, more broadly, all social media because we have a government that is complicit in the deception. We need to think more critically and we need to always be mindful of the important difference between "facts"---remember those?---and "opinions".
Speakers---be they pols or pundits---who use phrases like "many people are saying" or "everybody knows" as authority for ANYTHING should be ignored. And, we should increase our use of one of the best political rejoinders ever devised: "BULLSHIT!"
Finally, we need to be a little kinder to each other; a little more respectful, because those who would divide us can't do it by themselves. They are counting on our prejudice, our resentment and our anger to accomplish their purpose.

(7,220 posts)Divisive, yes. But IMO silence is akin to tolerance. I DO NOT tolerate traitors to our country.
And that especially goes for actual flag-wavers. Look them right in the eye and ask "what are you doing to make sure Russia isn't hacking our elections?"
But yeah, more tolerance for anyone who's not guilty of Rump. And encourage people to register, double-check their registration, and vote by mail if a all possible.

(4,192 posts)with his famous 9 most terrifying words ("I'm from the government and I'm here to help." ) . That's when conservatives and libertarians began their "government sucks" tirade followed by decades of sabotaging it and claiming that as proof they were right. All the while making it *more* intrusive in our lives. Fuckers. Now that the Russians are helping them maintain power, suddenly they don't even care about treason and prefer to call it "meddling". Still a bunch of fuckers even after 38 years of their nonsense.
