I have a feeling that Trump is close to the point where he will do something drastic.
He could allow or instigate some crisis that creates a national state of emergency so he can claim authority to use emergency powers, whatever they are. (Not clearly defined in the Constitution so the Trump administration could craft their own definition that fits Trump's goals.).
He could announce that he's firing Mueller. Most Constitutional scholars say he doesn't have authority to do but there are some dissenters who say he does. This would cause confusion that might disrupt the investigation's progress, at least for a time.
He could fire Sessions or Rosenstein but for Sessions he'd have to get Congress approval for a replacement which could be messy. I think Rosenstein would be in charge in the interim anyway so it wouldn't do Trump much good.
If he fired Rosenstein there is already a system in place to move someone into his vacant position so it would be difficult for Trump to install one of his toadies there.
I'm sure his team is mulling over other options also, trying to find shady legal loopholes that would enable him to shut down the investigation. Rudy declaring that collusion isn't a crime is one option that is pointing in that direction.
In any case I don't expect Trump to sit by and allow the wheels of justice to grind him up. He will make some big, Hail Mary move at some point. It's sounding like it might be soon but he may still wait until the magnifying lens moves on from looking at his cronies to focus directly on him before he jumps.
