Smith College employee calls cops on black student who looked out of place eating lunch in cafeteriaAn employee at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts called on campus police to investigate a suspicious black male whom they claimed looked out of place in one of the schools cafeterias. However, as the Boston Globe reports, that black male actually turned out to be a black female student at Smith who was eating lunch in the cafeteria while taking a break from her summer job at school.
Campus police investigated and found that there was nothing suspicious about the students presence in the cafeteria. The student, who is not identified by name, angrily wrote about the incident on her Facebook page and accused whoever called the police on her of having racial biases.
I am blown away at the fact that I cannot even sit down and eat lunch peacefully, she wrote. I did nothing wrong, I wasnt making any noise or bothering anyone. All I did was be black Its outrageous that some people question my being at Smith College, and my existence overall as a woman of color.
Amy Hunter, the colleges interim director of diversity and inclusion, sent out a message to students decrying the employees decision to call the police on a student for eating lunch. Such behavior can contribute to a climate of fear, hostility and exclusion that has no place in our community, she wrote.

(65,151 posts)This is getting ridiculous. You can't "steal" a lunch at a cafeteria so obviously she paid for it.
Even if she was a guest for the day, one calls the cops on a paying visitor?

(20,586 posts)Is there a particular rw media that is telling people to do this? Are they thinking the police will assist them with their racism? In some cases that is true (Starbucks).
Publicize their names and get an interview so the crazy is broadcast to all.

(58,724 posts)Raw Story is part of the reason why so many newspapers are in trouble.
They steal content from others, slap on a click-bait headline, and make sure to get the hits, rather than the source that did the actual reporting.
They even have the nerve to put their own people's names on the bylines, as opposed to the actual person who did the reporting.
Why pay for a Boston Globe online subscription when you can get the pirated version for free, right?
Except, once enough people do that, there won't be a Boston Globe for Raw Story to pirate anymore.
