Trump Fury Over Mueller 'Conflicts' Dates to Oval Office Meeting

By Shannon Pettypiece and Chris Strohm

August 3, 2018, 4:00 AM EDT

Mueller met with Trump on FBI job day before taking over probe

President suggested Sessions should remove special counsel

President Donald Trump sat with Robert Mueller in the Oval Office in May of last year to interview him for a job: director of the FBI.

The next afternoon, Trump was in another Oval Office meeting when an aide interrupted with news that Mueller had taken a different post: special counsel to investigate Trump’s campaign.

Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who attended both meetings, were blindsided, according to a person familiar with both meetings. The president immediately blasted Sessions for not knowing the announcement was coming and challenged how the person he’d just interviewed for the FBI job -- and who Trump said had a past dispute with him over golf club fees -- could now be investigating him, the person said.

In recent weeks, Trump’s anger at Mueller -- and the president’s allegations that the special counsel is biased against him -- has broken out in public. On Wednesday, Trump tweeted that Mueller is “totally conflicted.” In late June, Trump asked when Mueller was “going to list his Conflicts of Interest.”

‘Creates a Question’

“If a guy just turned you down for a job, it certainly creates a question as to whether you could be perfectly objective in making an important decision about that person," said Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who said there are additional conflicts the legal team is aware of but not making public.

Their enemy should never investigate them because it will always turn out bad. Their friend should always investigate them because it will always turn out good.

It's about time Trump and his cronies realize how the world really works and that there are actually honest people in the world who know and care about right from wrong.

no one wants a prosecutor to bring a personal vendetta to the job, but the prosecutor's job is by definition a biased one.

the judge and the jury need to be impartial. the prosecutor is an advocate for one side.

the check on a prosecutor's conduct is the threat of punishment for misconduct or abuse, not the attempt to eliminate bias.

in any event, it's pretty much impossible to find any prosecutor who doesn't have something at stake when it comes to investigating the president of the united states....

He interviewed him one day and Mueller accepted the special counsel job the very next day.
From everything Trump has said/done for the past 18 months of his illegal occupancy of the WH, he likes to wait about job decisions, teasing the applicants along the way...remember the bit where he had both SCOTUS applicants dangling to the last minute.?
