Obama came in when the economy was in the tank. Republicans viciously attacked his solid moves to get things going forward.

Trump came in under a solid economy.

That makes a huge difference.

PSA: I'm calling it a "solid economy" with the understanding it is a house of cards.

I recently did an op on this. They had enormous backing including free time 24hrs/day on Fox.

It really was a big deal.

There's no doubt Obama was less unpopular than Trump at a similar stage.

However, Democrats were more demoralized or simply in a lull, and not motivated toward the midterm. Republicans are going to do anything possible to limit the losses.

He's about 4 points below where Obama was on day 561 (41.2 vs 45.5). That's still depressing and says an awful lot about the racist ignorant American public given what a complete piece of shit Trump has shown himself to be. But the newsweek number is inaccurate.

Obama's presidency. The Great Recession he inherited was deep and painful.

If Trump was presiding over an economy with 10% unemployment, his approval ratings would be sub-30% right now, easy.

The bullish economy Trump inherited is the only thing keeping his popularity at 41.5%, and that's still awful.
