Trump Hangs Over Florida's 'Clash of The Titans' Senate Race

By Alice Ollstein | August 6, 2018 6:00 am

Despite predictions of a “blue wave” in this November’s midterm elections, Democrats face a brutal Senate map, and have to fight to hold onto control of 10 seats in states that voted for President Trump. One of the closest and likely one of the most expensive races is going down in Florida, where Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), who has represented the state since 2001, is facing the toughest challenge of his career from Gov. Rick Scott (R), a close Trump ally.

“This is really a clash of the titans,” Republican political strategist Rick Wilson told TPM. “They both have run multiple statewide races and they’re good at it.”

The latest Mason-Dixon poll of likely voters showed a tight race, with Scott slightly in the lead and with 9 percent of voters undecided. Over the past few months, despite Republicans’ poor performance on a generic ballot nationwide, Mason-Dixon found that Scott has climbed in the polls while Nelson has “remained static” — numbers reflected in other public polling.

National Democrats acknowledge the state is going to be a huge money drain for them, but say they’re confident Scott can be defeated.

Since this asshole Scott likes to rip off Medicaid and his buddy the traitor fucked over two territories in the Caribbean, and he likes the traitor a lot, does anyone really think that he will help the refugees from those islands that came to the mainland....................think about that for one moment.................he ripped off the elderly to make a buck, and if he gets in the Senate, what the hell do you think he is going to rip off, he will not vote for aid.....................his track record says that he will not.........Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are still struggling................. him going down there to show his support, he's full of proverbial republican shit ..........his record says that he full of shit................its all about himself and how to make a buck........

no rebuttal as yet - of course, that might not be a good campaign tactic

It points out those taxes would go to SS/Medicare/Medicaid and outright accuses him of ripping off old people.

Iron-y deficient.

I noticed the source of this reporting was the Washington Free Beacon which I think was also the first source of the infamous Steele Dossier (as support for L'il Marco's campaign).

Apparently his campaign is using the "keeping our powder dry" tactic until after Labor Day when more people start paying attention.

Didn't Alex Sink try that only to be met with a "ho hum" response? Scott backers seem to think because he wasn't a politician at the time and he was never "indicted" it doesn't matter.

Frustrating!

75 times (or something close). I live in the Daytona area.

Seems to me this would be a strong campaign issue for seniors . . . or anyone who cares about greed.

Why is it not in the spotlight?

inundated with red tide thanks to Scott. As I walk my dogs past the canal I can see more dead fish than I could ever imagine. And the stench is overwhelming. This is only the beginning of the damage he has done to the state. Governor Nosferatu cannot hide from the environmental disaster he has created.
