Living in the San Diego area offers us a plethora of biotech choices.
My better half looked into knee cartilage renewal via stem cell treatment. These are not FDA approved OBTW.
The cost was very high.
Here is the kicker.
When discussing options with one of the companies we asked them if they took before and after MRI pictures to verify if cartilage actually grew back (a key question to ask in my view). They said no they didn't then added, "Our clients feel better after treatment".
We hung up and never looked back.
Be careful out there.

(24,470 posts)my husband had a treatment and it helped him a lot. but after the first injection our insurance decided not to pay any more so he can't get any more injections. They'd rather pay for the knee replacement.

(24,766 posts)But it didn't help me very much. I had to have pre-approval from Medicare and I won't get Euflexxa injections again. I'd rather have the knee replacements; at least I'll be able to exercise after the surgery heals.

(20,585 posts)this is a get rich scheme at this point. I recall reading about a woman who had stem cell treatment for her eye and the result was she had bone growing in her eye. A company advertising in my area was not even staffed by doctors.

(22,008 posts)I had an injection of reconstituted amniotic tissue into my left shoulder about 7 months ago.
I had recurrent pain before and now no pain whatsoever. The function has improved dramatically
I haven't had any post treatment x-rays or MRIs. Why should I?
However I didn't have a cartilage issue. Cartilage is very difficult to regenerate.
But don't give up totally.

(19,480 posts)In powdered form, very water-soluble. I think it has helped my knees and other joints quite a bit.
I admit to being skeptical when I first read about it. I thought it would probably just be digested and pass through the body. But it seems to be helping -- slowly, and over a fairly long period, but helping nonetheless.
Your mileage may vary. It's certainly cheaper and less questionable than stem cell injections.
