25 th AMENDMENT

As Mueller closes in, I think the 25th amendment will be his way out. If he takes the 25th then he can be removed from office. If his people put out that he is suffering from Senile Dementia or Alzheimer's as his reason for resigning then I don't see any Congress impeaching him. This may also save him from prosecution for his crimes by the Courts.
This would probably work for him because we have a tradition of not prosecuting Presidents for any of their crimes. The 25th amendment would allow him to retire quietly to private life. Of course he would have to stay out of the public life and discourse.

It would not save his children and/or co-conspirators from prosecution but I think he would willingly sacrifice them to save his own skin.

His way out is to resign.

As a practical matter, the 25th is harder to use than impeachment. It requires an act of personal disloyalty from a cabinet chosen for personal loyalty. Plus it requires more votes in congress than impeachment.

If they had the votes for the 25th, they have the votes to impeach. In that event, Donnie would just declare victory and resign.

First of all, here's the section the 25th Amendment Solution advocates are relying on:

Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

This is essentially a coup by the people he appointed, and if they fail we all know how Trump punishes those he feels are disloyal.

Of course, like the Second Amendment, there's a part if the Twenty-Fifth its advocates seem to omit:

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

If he chooses to fight an expulsion -- and he will -- the Senate will need the same two-thirds of the votes that would be needed to remove via the impeachment process. Except in this case, the two-thirds requirement is also required by the House. (A simple majority is required for the House to pass an article of impeachment.) Good luck on getting the House to go along with removing their favorite president.

I think the "maybe he'll just quietly quit for the good of the Party" folks are deluding themselves. Here's the part of the Amendment they're relying on:

Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Trump will never step down on his own. To do so will show weakness, and Donnie Two Scoops abhors is weakness in a man, hence his attraction to authoritarians like Putin. (Notice I didn't mention women. He is frightened of strong women, like Angela Merkel, Kamala Harris and Maxine Waters, hence the constant assault on their intelligence.)

Even if Don Jr. and Jared are indicted and convicted, he knows he can always pardon them, so no harm, no foul. And if they get convicted by a state court, well, that's why you have buses to throw people under.

Trump also knows once Kavanaugh is seated on the SCOTUS his ass is completely covered, and he can shut down the Mueller investigation at will with no consequence.

The only simple solution is that he gets hit by a ball while playing golf and knocked into a coma, or that he gets eaten by one of Florida's many sink holes while he's at Mar-A-Lago.

Or Melania cuts his balls off because his affairs have become public.
