'Go Back To Your Country!' Sikh Man Attacked While Posting Signs For GOPer

A man of the Sikh faith was brutally attacked and told to “go back” to his home country while he was out putting up campaign signs for Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) last week, according to a local CBS affiliate.

The man, Surjit Malhi, had just finished putting up a sign for Denham and was walking back to his truck when two men reportedly approached him, threw sand in his eyes and beat Malhi in the head, shoulders and neck, all while shouting that he should “go back to your country!”

The men also reportedly vandalized Malhi’s truck with hate symbols and the same “go back” message.

Malhi, a Republican and longtime active member of the Turlock, California community, who has reportedly raised thousands of dollars for people who are homeless or victims of California wildfires, told the local CBS that he was surprised by the attacks.

Even a conservative Republican walking around in a turban has to figure he's a target, even though he subscribes to all the orthodoxy of his assailants. Should he expect that? Considering what's been going on in the country for the last 18 months, he should certainly expect it. Should he accept it? I can't answer for Mr. Malhi, but he is supporting Republican Jeff Denham, which indicates to me that he's just fine with people being attacked on orders from the Republicans and their leaders. Did he think he'd ever be on the receiving end of the anger, fear, prejudice, and hate? I can't answer that, either, except that according to the article he expressed surprise that he was attacked.

There is a political alternative that isn't accepting the current status quo, but Malhi seems determined to defeat it by supporting Denham.

He needs to re-evaluate his beliefs.

After they threw sand and hurled insults at him, they promised they would be voting for Denham this fall.

They lean conservative on social issues.

I'm sorry this happened to him... but I can never understand how people of color support the now out and out racist GOP.

Maybe he should rethink that political party that he is a part of.
