JUST IN: YouTube permanently bans Alex Jones

JUST IN: YouTube permanently bans Alex Jones http://hill.cm/tgaAwLE

YouTube on Monday said it had banned Alex Jones’s Infowars channel, following similar actions taken against the controversial right-wing conspiracy theorist by other major U.S. technology companies.

After the channel violated YouTube's policies against child endangerment and hate speech, Jones was banned for trying to circumvent the site's enforcement measures, according to a source familiar with the company’s decision. The source said Jones received a 90-day moratorium on livestreaming for violating its policies and that he then tried to promote his flagship radio show on other YouTube pages, prompting a permanent ban.

“When users violate these policies repeatedly, like our policies against hate speech and harassment or our terms prohibiting circumvention of our enforcement measures, we terminate their accounts,” a YouTube spokesperson said when asked for comment.

Jones said on Saturday that he expected the platform to delete his page. Spotify, Apple and Facebook have also taken action against him.

Facebook had faced criticism and scrutiny for allowing Jones to remain on the site, despite his promotion of conspiracy theories such as that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was staged and that survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting were “crisis actors.”

Spotify booted Jones’s podcast from its platform last week, and Apple did the same on Sunday. Facebook followed suit on Monday, kicking Jones off despite remarks by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that appeared to defend Jones and other conspiracy theorists who are active on the social media platform.

These people need to be marginalized. When you go beyond being "entertainment" and "an act", then the private companies hosting this crap need to take action.

White supremacists, neo Nazis, and white nationalists make money from YouTube advertising. The advertisers need to be made aware of what they're sponsoring.

where advertisers have pulled their ads - but there are still the gold companies and "Lifelocks" of the underworld that keep them propped up.

I.e., here was an article about that from back in March - https://money.cnn.com/2018/03/03/technology/youtube-ads-infowars-alex-jones/index.html

If there's something in there you just can't live with, like basic civility and not posting hate speech, the exit is thataway.

But maybe that was not the source of your anxiety.

Rules for conduct must exist on social media, because troll swarms exist. Rage is a contagion, as are racism, homophobia, misogyny, and calls for violence. There are places online I will never go to because they tolerate hatred. And when the hatred spills over into the streets of Charlottesville they pretend to be surprised.

It's the same reason we have laws as well as freedoms in civil society.

This bastard specializes in spewing forth the worst kind of disinformation and lunatic conspiratorial fabrications. He is dangerous to American democracy and its people; and he's yet another Putin tool, who keeps calling for American civil war.

Just after the word...that Gen. Michael Flynn had cut a deal with special counsel Robert Mueller, InfoWars issued a “Red Alert” warning that the “removal of Trump will trigger a massive civil war.”

Host Alex Jones explained that if “they remove Trump” after the “classic Americana being promoted and détente with Christian Russia,” it will cause a “massive civil war.”

...their platform for “free” videos pulls this stunt!
OK, I’ll keep using Chrome, and their search-engine, ever mindful that they’re harvesting and selling my online trail of breadcrumbs.
And people wonder why I haven’t brought a Google spying device (smart home) into my house. An eavesdropper I don’t need. Especially one that comes with a pages-long EULA that most everyone else clicks through to get to “free” music, etc.

Sorry for the tangential tirade. Asshole Jones and his Info Whores deserve this long overdue sanction. And more.

Getting your channel deleted doesn't mean much anymore. A LOT of sovereign citizens have been kicked off YouTube; they change one letter in their channel name, reupload all the crap they had on their old channel, and they're back in business.
