Something happened at work today and I was wondering if other Duers have had this experience.

I work in a manufacturing plant and there are about 20 people on each line. My back-up line leader came up to me and said "See that little Mexican girl (she wasn't Mexican-Asian obviously). She's so lazy! I can't wait for the president to get that wall built and make sure they can't get in and slaughter us." She lives in a rural area and my question is: Why would she assume just because I'm white that I would agree with her? I just looked at her and when she walked away I shook my head.

The CEO of our company is an immigrant from China, my boss is Mexican/Native American mix, and I'm everything but Italian.

If this happened in our company someone would be summarily fired.

When people don't call these racist out, it validates them.

As soon as I started to forcefully push back on right wing bullshit in the Ward Room and Ready Room in the Navy, a lot of the shit stopped, and I even found others that felt like me and shared my political views, but were reluctant to speak up.

It's the beauty of Hate Radio. All they do is the literary equivalent of mutual masturbation. If they're exposed to something outside their bubble, they get the same look on their faces of the adolescent boy caught masturbating by his mom with a pair of her panties in his hand.

"i really want to kill some americans, but i'm just so lazy, i don't think i'll bother...."

seriously, these people are idiots.

tribal idiots.

if you're white, you wear the markings of her tribe, whether you like it or not. that's why she assumed you'd be receptive.

alternatively, bigots like to put out feelers to find kindred spirits. some are more subtle than others....

Every racist thinks every other member of their race is just as racist a they are.

Pre-Trump, we non-racists had finally beaten that down somewhat, and cowed them into, usually, silence. But, the election of Trump has made that feeling of self-importance and "everybody feels this way" erupt like a volcano.

That's why we need to continue to point out that he lost by 3,000,000 votes. And, why it's important to know definitively if Russia hacked vote totals. We make him illegitimate and they, hopefully, return to being cowed.

Remember, also, with Facebook algorithms and friending and blah blah blah, these days you are more likely to only see things that reinforce your worldview. There is a truism that you are more likely to be friends with others who think like you. And, with Facebook, you get constant reinforcement that your ideas are correct, and if that's all you see all day every day, you start to believe that *everybody* thinks like you.

I tried to get rid of her and she just ranted all the way down the stairs! I reported her. It appears, according to others in my neighborhood , she had a route in YNP and got kicked out of there fore ranting RWNJ crapola. I saw her on the route a couple days ago so I guess she still has a job where she can accost people in their homes and workplaces with her BS.

It made me feel uncomfortable because she has a bunch of personal info and I don't know anything about her. Just because FedEx hired her doesn't mean she's trustworthy.

You did not respond to the buzz words properly. I worked in an environment like this until I retired two years ago. People like this have a tendency to pass on all blame and only accept responsibility for the good things. republican racists are horrible to work with.

If HR found out you said such a thing it's very likely you could be out on your ass and at the very least you would be put on probation.

No racism, sexism or profanity. It was considered a No Tolerance policy, and yes it could cost you your job.

I work for a Texas outfit with many Mexicans, including two Mexican women in vital positions as department heads, along with another guy who is Brazilian, and was promoted to executive VP.

People with racist attitudes never get past the first interview with us. We are less than 500 people worldwide, with native speakers of German, Romanian, Cantonese, Dutch as well as Spanish, Portuguese and English. Wasting all that talent for no other reason than an irrational prejudice seems like a pretty stupid idea to us.
