Do we have any Kansas experts here?
Kelly has a better shot against Kobach than against Colyer, right?
How likely is it that Kelly becomes governor of Kansas?
***Edit: That last question (about Kelly's chances) is what I should have led with. In a Democratic-friendly year, is there any chance a Democrat gets elected governor of Kansas? More specifically, is Kelly capable of winning?
My goodness.

(10,721 posts)It was my understanding that Kelly would have a better chance against Kobach.

(5,126 posts)I will never go with the thought process that someone completely deplorable and awful should win an R primary just because our chances to beat them are better. I wish for the GOP to nominate the most qualified and least horrible person because nothing is ever 100%. Country over Party.

(10,721 posts)That's why I was asking in the OP what Kelly's chances are. If she doesn't have much of a shot either way, then it would probably make sense to root for Colyer, although even then an argument could be made that we should want the more deplorable candidate to win the GOP primary.

(14,983 posts)Does anyone really think today's Kansas will elect a Democrat, ANY Dem, over a Repuke, ANY Repuke?
If so, are you sharing whatever you are imbibing?

(10,721 posts)...how she might be viewed in a Democratic-friendly year (if a Dem is going to become governor of KS, is Kelly the type to make that happen?). But if she really doesn't stand a chance either way, then I would have to agree with others that it's best if Kobach loses (and disappears forever).

(37,748 posts)We who simply held out hope for Jones' victory were called 'delusional' at the time by trolls and malcontents (among others demographics, I'm sure).
We shared none of our good stuff with them, though.

(15,388 posts)But for the most part, as a Kansan, I'm resigned to another 4 years of a republican governor. I'll work to get out he vote for Kelly and hope against hope, but I'm not going to be crushed if another republican wins. That's been my reality since high school. But I would prefer that Kobach not even get the chance to be that governor. I hate that racist shitbag even more than Trump.

(10,721 posts)If Kelly doesn't stand a chance, then I've got to root against Kobach. But if Kelly has a 50/50 or 40/60 chance of winning against Kobach (and basically no chance against Colyer), then it's tempting to root for Kobach. Of course, I might feel differently if I lived in Kansas.

(1,040 posts)... I would prefer that Kobach doesn't even get close enough to get elected. He is the absolute worst, and I can't believe he's drawn as many votes as he has. That being said, I was telling the hubs tonight that I think Kelly has a better chance against Kobach then against Colyer. After Brownback, Colyer is seen by Repubs here as palatable, and few will vote across party lines if he is their candidate. Still, going to work for Kelly as hard as I can in the hopes that we can have another 'Sebelius'.

(10,721 posts)...as a Kansan, what would you say are Kelly's chances if Kobach does win the primary?
That's really the question I should have featured in the OP. I know Kansas is a deep red state, but Kobach has been getting some bad press (as well he should) and this is a Dem-friendly year. And, as you mentioned, Kansas did have a Democratic governor less than 10 years ago.

(43,049 posts)the possibility that something could go horribly wrong. Like he could win in November.
Like when that fool Trump won. Who expected that?
In the long run, best to hope the Republicans put up someone reasonable. We may lose, but things won't go into the toilet.
