The New Russian/Republican Narrative: Pitting The Left (Ocasio-Cortez) Versus Democrats...

...even though she ran as and is a Democrat. Beware of threads pushing this narrative.

On Fox, there is a story with this headline pushing the idea that somehow there is a split between Hollywood and the left:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shuns Hollywood elites in West Coast tour

Likewise, Russia Today is pushing this story:

Did Obama really ‘snub’ Ocasio-Cortez and does it signal a split in the Democratic Party?

If you see a thread on DU pushing these twin narratives, beware, particularly if the thread seems to be perma-kicked to the top of the forum. Ocasio-Cortez ran as a Democrat and she has not even won her race in the General Election, yet.

Yet, the right and Russia are happily using her to sow discord on the left. Don't fall for it by kicking threads that push this Fox News/Russian narrative.

I wish we knew more about her. Research hasn't been easy.

Will watch for those items. I've seen the "shuns Hollywood elites" but not that Obama supposedly snubbed her (can't imagine that).

AOC seems to be doing a lot of pitting all by herself.

She was on the board of Justice Democrats, whose statement when it was launched blamed the "corporate wing" of the Democratic Party for Republican success, "by aligning with Wall Street over working men and women. The solution is not unity with the corporate-backed Democrats. The solution is to challenge them and replace every single one of them ..." They changed this to be less hostile but it's no secret that the enemy are Democrats who they think are not progressives.

A tweet from a month before the primary:
"What's the point of a #bluewave if we elect the same exact Big-Bank Democrats who got us into this mess? It's time to change."

Calling Sharice Davids a corporate attorney. It is very clear.

The point about Russians enjoying sowing discord in the Democratic party is NOT that Nancy Pelosi, Joe Manchin, and Chuck Schumer span the "real" Democratic spectrum, and than anyone to the left of them are insubordinate insurrectionists contributing only to chaos.

NOR do the Russians need us all to believe that AOC and Bernie Sanders are the progressive torch carriers, and that establishment Democrats are Wall Street toadies and pawns.

What the Russians DO want is Democrats fighting each other tooth and nail over these disagreements, such that we lose focus on winning elections.

Let's not play into their hands.

Sorry, I don't understand. The Russians are targeting people who are susceptible to anti-Democratic propaganda. When people, even if they are Democrats, lie about the Democratic Party, of course Democrats will fight back and correct the misinformation (such as claiming that Democrats ignore the working class and have no message and are bought off by corporations, etc.)

Sure, the "Russians are targeting people who are susceptible to anti-Democratic propaganda," because that will sow discord within the Democratic coalition. The Russians are ALSO targeting the heart of the Democratic Party, encouraging them to bar the door to the Bernie Sanders' the Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's, the Tulsi Gabbard's, etc. If Democrats closer to the center of the Party view others to their left with hostility and suspicion, the Russians win too.

Correcting misinformation is great, but let's do it in a manner that does not splinter the coalition any further is all I'm saying.

The base of the Democratic Party have common sense, are not idiots. The people with the least amount of money voted for the Democratic candidate in the last presidential election. There is no baring the door to the Bernie Sanders' etc., they bar the door themselves by being hostile and assuming Democrats are enemies. This is obvious. Hilarious how quoting their words is seen as "bashing."

A lot of strange things are happening. I'm glad I don't live in the U.S. now because if someone called themselves a "progressive Democrat" in front of me I'd want to slap them silly while screaming, "The United States is a two party system on the national level and the Democratic Party is the progressive one, you idiot, and if everyone voted we wouldn't have all the problems that REPUBLICANS created! *smack*"
