Liberal Insurgency Hits a Wall in Midwest Primaries

August 8, 2018 at 5:56 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 40 Comments

Washington Post: “The Democratic Party’s left-wing insurgency found its limits Tuesday night, with voters favoring establishment candidates over more liberal challengers in almost every closely watched race across several states.”

”Candidates backed by Emily’s List, which endorses women and sometimes clashes with the left, bested left-wing challengers in three southeast Michigan districts; at least two are seen as toss-ups in November. Early Tuesday evening, just one Sanders-backed candidate in a competitive primary was in the lead; Brent Welder, a labor lawyer running in Kansas’s 3rd Congressional District, benefited from a crowd of five less-liberal candidates who split the vote.”

america is not NOR EVER BEEN a left-center country but a center-left country, if you don't understand, study some history and take some political classes.

Where the problem arises, the "hardcore left" is almost as bad as the conservatives where its "my way or the highway approach" to almost all things. Thats why we saw Bush elected in 2000 and Trump in 2016

that O'Connor didn't have a good enough message so they voted Green or didn't vote at all.

Exactly! Well said! I couldn't have said it better myself.

Where the problem arises, the "hardcore left" is almost as bad as the conservatives where its "my way or the highway approach" to almost all things.
And oddly enough, those who have that approach are quite proud of themselves (or their candidate) when they end up with NO LOAF instead of HALF A LOAF.

Frankly, I'll never understand why anyone (any candidate or any voter) thinks that STARVING is preferable to COMPROMISE. I guess it must be related to the vanity of being able to say to one's constituents "I was strong" or "I stood my ground". But in these types of "all or nothing" standoffs, it's the "NO" voters that typically win and the stubborn politicians bring home NOTHING.

All I'm saying is that it's NOT very "progressive" if there's not any progress being made at all. Remaining motionless (or moving in REVERSE) is the exact OPPOSITE of being "progressive". In contrast, finding common ground and moving forward (making progress) even if it's just a little bit... even if it's only gets us slightly closer to the ultimate goal... THAT IS PROGRESS. That's what an intelligent progressive would do.

that the "new blood at all costs" anti-establishment crap is what got the Repubs to elect Trump.

I don't want to elect a left wing version of Trump.

This supposed "left wing insurgency" is the one that was backing anti-choice candidates, willingly and over actual progressives.
