There is a good chance that "Tweetie Bird", Chris Mathew's moronic bull shit double question yo Danny O'Conner cost us the election last night.
It wasn't that Dan O'Conner was for or against Nancy Pelosi for speaker, it was that Mathews made O'Conner appear to flip-flop. I say appear, because he didn't really flip-flop, it was a Fox News trick to make it look that way.
Dan O'Conner said he wouldn't support Pelosi for Speaker in the Democratic Caucus. But then Tweetie asked "What about on the floor, before the full House?". What the fuck. Do you think O'Conner was going to support Jordan or McCarthy and hand the gavel to a Republican. No Congressman, from either party, would answer that Hypothetical. Mathews sucks.
I'm not saying that he should only ask soft ball questions. But a loaded question to a rookie on our side, what an asshole he is. I will never watch his show again, the piece of shit. After all, CNN has an alternative, or I might just spend another hour reading DU.

And whether or not people watched the interview, what you're saying is that voters decided: "I really hate Donald Trump, and what Republicans are doing to the economy, but what O'Connor said about House Leadership is unforgiveable".

(14,567 posts)I know, she is a bit boorish.
To me, she has a bit of charm to her to smooth that out a bit.
But, if you like Trump/GOP haterade, doesn't get much better than her and Schmidt.

(24,396 posts)Do you know how few people actually watch his show? The chances that enough uncommitted voters in OH 12 saw that interview and that doing so caused them to vote against the D are infinitesimal.

(54,770 posts)Plus, do you think someone watching Matthews would vote for the GOPer over that? Or are you saying, somone saw it after 6:00 Central and said, by golly I'm not going to the polls and vote for O'Connor, just let the GOPers have it.
Maybe I'm missing something, so please let me know what.

(14,971 posts)but we still could have done better. This is a gerrymandered district that has only elected one Democrat in 40 years. Turn out will be better in the mid-terms. The GOP has made Pelosi a villian to their voters so distancing himself from her in a red district may be strategic on his part.

(5,275 posts)That is an almost impossible district for a democrat to win, gerrymandering gone wild. That this was so close is not a good sign for republicans.
Chris is however still on double secret probation with me because of his sickening fawning over Dubya after his fake helicopter landing on a Carrier.

(2,744 posts)and once in a while he is spot on. I usually can't bear to watch him.
In a December 2003 interview of then-Governor Howard Dean, who was raising amazing amounts of money and looked like the Democratic front-runner with lots of positive press, he started in on questions about Dean's take on media consolidation. He kept hammering until Dean said he thought media consolidation was wrong and he wanted to break up the giant media conglomerates.
I watched that interview and thought it would mobilize corporate media against Dean, which turned out to be the case. Dean got almost no favorable coverage in the MSM after that point.
Matthews is clearly a corporate shill, and far from harmless.

(698 posts)Chris Matthews lost me a few years ago when he constantly questioned everything President Obama did just so he could curry some favor from the right. I no longer watch his show and frankly, I'm surprised MSNBC hasn't already replaced him.

(5,272 posts)occasionally right wing crazies have let their hair down and said shit that seemed to be beyond the pale. Unfortunately what we learned instead was that nothing is beyond the pale.
I will say that if I had to choose between tweety and blitzer or Larry King, I'd cut for Tweety, which isn't saying anything for Mathews. But how the fuck did any of these people get on the air? It really shows a lack of interest by the producers of these shows of doing real hard-hitting journalism. And somebody has to explain to me how what they were really chasing was ratings. These people don't say ratings to me, or certainly not in the demographic that advertisers tend to care about.
