Washington Post:BURLINGTON, Vt. In less than 24 hours, Ethan Sonneborn, a Democratic candidate for governor of Vermont, was set to face off against four opponents at a televised forum. He needed to stand out against a crowded primary field and make enough of an impact to overcome his low name recognition. So his opening statement was crucial.
I want to be almost exclusively focused on the economy in my opening statement, because no other candidate has a monopoly on the economy, he told his campaign manager, Miles Burgess, and his chief of staff, Alex Yaggy. Lets add in a line about raising the minimum wage.
Sonneborn leaned back into a cozy beige sectional and began to dictate while Burgess took notes on a yellow legal pad.
It was a perfectly normal campaign meeting except in one important way: Sonneborn is 14 years old. And so is his senior staff (although, to be fair, Yaggy will turn 15 on primary day.)

But I have little patience for this. Not 'anyone' is up to the job of being Gov.

And the campaign is a very positive wholesome campaign among all participants.
Sonneborn's three Democratic opponents in the Aug. 14 primary election have welcomed him to the race.
In a debate on Vermont Public Radio, candidate James Ehlers asked Sonneborn to serve as an advisor on youth and public education issues if Ehlers became governor.
"Absolutely," Sonneborn replied. "If you'd be wiling to serve as an advisor to me on clean water."
"Absolutely," Ehlers said.

That 1) this kid is eligible to run and 2) everyone is taking him seriously (he's not meming or joking like that kid who ran "Deez Nuts" ), I think this can only be a positive thing. Good for this kid.

(62,279 posts)6. I just listened to the NPR interview he did.
He has near zero shot of winning, and he's not very knowledgeable, but he is articulate and can stand his own in a debate, which is so cool.
But yeah I don't see him gaining traction, just listening to him stumble over policy proposals is kind of cringe, but he's doing his best. And no one is mocking him or flaming him for it. I really respect those in the Democratic primary there for letting him be there and being respectful and kind.

(62,279 posts)2. That's absolutely awesome. And apparently eligible!
No age law in Vermont.
