Anti-abortion group launches ads against Manchin over Planned Parenthood

A leading anti-abortion group is launching a new ad campaign against endangered Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) over his stance on Planned Parenthood.

The group Susan B. Anthony List is launching $785,000 in TV and radio ads against Manchin, who faces a tough reelection race this year in a red state easily won in 2016 by President Trump.

“In West Virginia we believe in the sanctity of life,” the ad’s narrator states. “But Senator Joe Manchin voted to allow federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion business in the country.”

SBA List said in a statement that although Manchin “claims to be pro-life,” he has “flip-flopped to side with Planned Parenthood.”

Manchin voted in 2015 to defund Planned Parenthood, but the ads point to his more recent vote in 2017 in favor of an Obama administration rule restricting states from cutting off funds to the organization.

Manchin also said last year that he would vote to fund Planned Parenthood as long as the longstanding ban on federal funding for abortion remains in place.

Meh. West Virginia needs affordable women's healthcare. Manchin should be fine. Freethinker65 Aug 2018 #1

he still needs to show some courage and vote against Kavanaugh. It's really uncertain that he will though.
